It was homecoming at my son's school tonight, and Johnstown brought their band along with their football team. Our band director is an Ohio grad, and I think Johnstown's is too -- or at least he drank the 110 Koolaid. It was pure joy listening to the bands. Johnstown's band is big and pure 110 -- a great horn section, a dynamite drum line, lots of motion, and dancing. The Watkins band is smaller but loud with lots of motion. Because they had alumni in the band, they limited themselves to standard Ohio numbers:"Long Train Running," "Ain't Been Good," "Light Up." Sitting there listening to the two bands, I got to thinking about Gene Thrailkill and the legacy he left. Fifty years after he began the Ohio Sound and 45 years since he left for Oklahoma, the beat goes on at Ohio and at high schools across the state. Fantastic.

Next year will be the 50th Anniversary of the 110.

I know that Mr. Thrailkill has appeared with the 110 in the past.
Be nice to have him back next year.

Would also love a "throwback" show from 1967.

And,in case anyone forgot,the 110 will be in the 2017 Macy's Parade.
