falls to Eastern Illinois 21-17 at home. Bad for the MAC. Good for the soul.

This is the MAC's second FCS loss. Those and OUr loss have to go in with the good victories.

Miami wrote an instruction manual on how to barf on yourself and lose a game. All of the following happened in the last four minutes of the game.

-Miami starts a drive following an EIU touchdown up 3.
-On first down, Miami calls a rush play but is called for holding AND an unnecessary roughness penalty after the play, taking them back to their own 4.
-On second down, they call a pass play but no one's open so they throw it away when they had room to scramble for positive yards. No gain and clock stops.
-On third down, a throw is well behind the receiver.
*With the lead, Miami could have run at least two minutes off the clock OR force EIU to burn timeouts. Neither happened*
-Miami punts and EIU is aided on the ensuing drive by a hands to the face roughing the QB penalty. EIU scores a touchdown and takes the lead with under a minute to go.
-On the next drive, a somewhat decent gain is nixed for illegal touching. Miami is sacked on the next play with under ten seconds to go. This is where I got lost as I had the sound off... but I think they tried to call timeout which I guess the scoreboard indicated they had one to spare but really, they didn't have any. 10 second runoff and EIU wins.

Also, Miami's been running a campaign to promote student attendance for this one game. They wanted more than 8000 students to attend which I guess would have been half their undergrad attendance. A huge thunderstorm ripped through SW Ohio and delayed the game for almost two hours. Crappy day all around for Miami football.

Announcers said stadium scoreboard showed none. But ESPN3 broadcast showed one.

Bad. I've seen somewhat similar over the last few years a little closer to home.

Kent State also lost to an FCS team, NC A&T, in 4OT's. These results are not good for the MAC whatsoever. But Miami and Kent State had company this weekend. Northwestern lost to Illinois State 9-7 when a FG bounced in off the upright.

Face it, the MAC #East is the worst conference in FCS or G5 or D1A or whatever you call it nowadays.

Despite which, Bcat2 and the SFB will see every OHIO win as a religious experience...for the quality of the opposition is never considered.

I'd have to agree. If the MAC east played the top 10 1 AA schools, we'd be less than .500.

For what it's worth, after two weeks, TeamRankings projects the following win totals for MAC East teams:
Ohio 6.5
BG 5.2
Kent 4.0
Akron 3.8
Buffalo 2.6
Miami 2.4

I can legitimately see 8-4 from this Bobcat group. Really should be 9-3, with the assumption of winning vs Texas State. But that's water over the dam...moving forward.
