Had the volume muted, but noticed the KU coach had a beef with the referee after Ohio's first-quarter safety. Complaining about the downed punt a couple of plays ago? Or about the safety itself? Any ideas?

If you coached the worse Power 5 team ever and had a MAC school already smacking you around right off the bat on your home field, wouldn't you be mad too?

He might have been complaining that a safety was called and the runner wasn't on the four yard line.

I think the complaint was the punt itself, when our guy was clearly on the goal line before slapping the ball back onto the field. I don't know the correct ruling for how they spot those.

Kinda looked to me that our guy had a foot on the white line, so, yeah endzone touchback 20 yard line....similar to how on their intereception, their guy ran all over the endzone and his foot hit the white line but, apparently, that's part of the endzone so he didn't leave the endzone and could touch it down for a touch back instead of a safety for us.

In college it only matters where the ball is on a punt, so it's commonplace to see guys lying with their entire bodies in the endzone, just so long as the ball doesn't cross the plane.

Again, the ball is what's important. Like the reverse of a TD, the entire ball would have needed to be extended past the goalline and into the field of play to be considered "out" of the end zone and into the field of play... It makes sense if you think of how the rule works on TDs, where if any part of the ball crosses the goalline that's in the end zone and it's a TD.

No, that's the NFL rule. As I understand it in college ball for a touchback the ball has to cross the plane of the end zone and does not make any difference where the player's body is, as long as the ball doesn't cross over, and I believe, after looking at the replay, that in this case the ball did not cross the plane. With NFL rules it would have been a touchback, but with NCAA rules it was correctly called as being downed short of the end zone.
