Topic: Nebraska Recruiting Pipeline

What are your thoughts on this? Usually we are in their backyard. What made me think of this topic was Easton Stick. I remember a year ago we were recruiting this kid and he chose North Dakota State over us. And he won his game against #13 Iowa yesterday. I had this game on the screen too and this kid fled the pocket and would bullrush linebackers, safeties and cornerbacks. Multiple times the head coach was screaming at this kid to slide or run out of bounds and he ignored the coach the whole game. He was tough as nails and never got hurt but the coach was displeased majority of the game as commentators kept mentioning it. Do you think we need to get back there and find hidden gems?

2006 Cole Bunner - OT, Starter 2009 till he got hurt
2007 Noah Keller - LB, starter 2008-9, 2011
2007 Matt Donahue - WR, played a lot in 2007 before he got hurt, transferred
2009 Jon Lechner - OT/OG started many games in 2011-13
2009 James Davis - OG, played as a true freshmen, injured
2010 Bryce Dietz - OG, was a starter in 2012, till injured
2011 Derrius Vick - QB, starter in 2014-5
2011 Devon Bass - CB, started many games 2013-15

Can't help but wonder if Easton's parents thought it be funny to name him after a hockey stick ha ha. I do wonder why FBS schools continue to schedule North Dakota State… It's a classic everything to lose nothing to gain situation against them. I would say Iowa was by far their most high end victory in terms of team name.

Say what you will about the level they play on but five straight national championships is impressive. Their program definitely reloads with regularity, even with coaching! Watching a game at the Fargo Dome is definitely on my Stadium bucket list.

Fargo is definitely not a talent hot bed but they do a great job getting the players that fit their system onto campus.

There is a lot of territory in the middle of the country with just a few FBS schools, almost all of which are in a P5 and feel pressure to dip into Texas and Florida for recruits. Some of these guys would be nice as a preferred walk on since without a lot of offers we have leverage. It's more important to stay strong in Ohio and build a nice Florida pipeline than to scholly too many recruits from random locations.

I think along those same lines it is really valuable/important to have a strong relationship with the high school coaches in the state. We have players who went to the big name D1 schools all the way down to the D5-6-7 programs and Frank strikes me as someone who values all programs/coaches and relationships with them. With the glut of MAC schools vying for Ohio prep talent we need to keep our interests as strong as possible.

When a 17-18 year old kid is trying to make a decision that could ultimately direct where the rest of his life may lead a coach can play a big influence and we want that coach to speak highly of OUr university. That being said I would never turn my nose up at the next Noah Keller that would come to Athens from a Nebraska or Kansas or something = ).

I know we have Poling and some other really good linebackers. But I am looking forward to that next Matt Muncy, Naoh Keller type lb. They are just fun to watch eunning around making plays.

Poling is a big-time player, if he has a Matt Muncy workout. 4.57 40. time, he will go high in the draft.

Bass was First Team All-MAC KR and Second Team All-MAC CB in 2013
Leuck was First Team All-MAC in 2008
Keller was Second Team All-MAC in 2008, Second Team All-MAC in 2009 and Second Team All-MAC in 2011

But if 50% of all our recruits are not finishing their eligibility, you will never be at 85 recruited scholarships, so you'd better have more than 3 of 11 at All-League or higher.

But if 50% of all our recruits are not finishing their eligibility, you will never be at 85 recruited scholarships, so you'd better have more than 3 of 11 at All-League or higher.
Above we have the risk/reward from recruiting far away. No one is suggesting "all our recruits" be from beyond the fertile borders of Ohio.

Some of that is attributable to the high percentage of players who are linemen, where I think the injury rate is higher, it is also true that a portion is the distance and homesickness factor, which contributed to loss of Donahue and Davis.

Do you guys really sit around and beat each other off over Nebraska football? The depth and talent level isn't even close to what Ohio puts out yearly. We've landed some really good players from there, but at a less than 50% success rate it's far from a hotbed. We've had as much or more success from Virginia or places like KY.

You guys really broke it down for me!!! Lol. I am not comparing it to Ohio though. I know a team wants majority of its players from the same state but I'm speaking pipeline specificially. Anytime you have more than 4 players from another state its a pipeline. We get some really good kids from that area....nice-sized and athletic. Now if more than have went to jail or did something awful I would say font recruit there. But 30-33% ALL-MAC status isnt bad either. Shows they can play.

Look at production from Oklahoma. TT, Foster, Beau, & that current RB or WR or slot receiver or punt returner.

I was going to say the same thing. No one really cares where they come from, so long as they get good players. Oklahoma has to be the best, by far. Nebraska has been solid, except for injury issues. Pennsylvania was also very good for a time, but then dried up, and I was glad to see a lineman from Pennsylvania in last year's class. My feeling is that Florida has also been very good, but Texas, Georgia, and California have been more hit or miss.

Another interesting thing is how many of them were team Captains. I'm not sure if Keller was, but he might have been, and Vick was, and Sayles is.
