Let go on national TV with 2 minutes left. Brutal.

Indeed. Have to hope that they let him know beforehand and made this announcement to take advantage of national TV exposure.

Even so, not a good look.

I thought Smith did a good job today. I think Jax State was outgunned a bit talentwise and had a bad matchup with Ohio's run defense. I think he threw the dice when necessary and had his team ready for a comeback in the second half. I hope he gets an HC opportunity someday.

Maybe they did. FootballScoop posted this before halftime: https://footballscoop.com/news/sources-jacksonville-state... .

Could be that's why Jax looked like a different team in the second half.

Probably.

He had absolute fire leading them in second half. As time ran out, he appeared in tears. Why someone would leak that then? No idea. I figure the AD did as a message to recruits. Complete garbage.

Mike, this will give a good example of two teams, both playing well, one of which promoted from within, and the other of which went outside. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I'm going with the odds to say that Ohio's approach will do better.

Rod Smith has accepted the offensive coordinator job at Marshall. This apparently was his plan for a week, not sure. When Gibson was hired he said that every assistant position was hired except for one spot. Only three of the new Marshall assistant coaches have been announced. Smith was also apparently offered the same position at wvu, but took the Marshall job because he would have complete control of the offense. FYI: Gibson was formerly Rich Rod's defensive coordinator.
