Sad part is that it'll work. A lot of adults have a very weird relationship with their college, and a lot of their ego tied up in their school's national reputation. Athletics are a huge part of that, so I don't doubt people will pay up to try and beat Auburn, or whatever.

Donor base can be tapped out. If they don't like the coach they can stop contributing too.

I would guess that many/most of their donors never went to the school
