Ummm…yeah….he was a freshman way back then! If you haven’t noticed, there aren’t exactly a lot of non-5-star freshmen QB’s eating up gobs of playing time in the FBS. The fact that he saw the field as a Covid true actually says a lot. He actually played in more games for UCF than Dillon Gabriel did that season (albeit in different roles). UCF also was in the midst of their runs then. He’d be foolish to at least not explore his options out there. I don’t see the NFL in his future, so next year might be his last chance to cash in (literally) on an opportunity at some nice bank. Six figures at another school would go a helluva lot further than a piddly MAC football award. He’s already been crowed a champion. He should at least see what his options are. We’re in the era of professional football whether we like it or not. He might have the chance to make money next year he won’t make by staying. I’m not saying he should go, I’m saying I hope he’s at least exploring all his options and makes the decision best for him not matter what we all think he should do.
You might want to relax a little... I understand that he was an underclassmen (played two years there, not one...) at UCF but he would've continued to be a backup at Ohio had Rourke returned and it wasn't even a given he'd be our starting QB had the offseason gone differently. Navarro is a good player but lets not act like he has the skillset P4 programs are looking for. He could transfer and end up as a backup. Hell, half our board wasn't sold on him midway through this season.

There's a reason he came to Ohio and it was because he wanted an opportunity at earning playtime time and it took him five years to become a starting D1 quarterback counting his time at UCF. He's a dynamic runner but an average passer. He should do whatever he wants, whether that be pursuing a better opportunity, more money or stay in Athens.

Leaving involves risk. Staying is a much safer option. Those are just the facts.

All of that said, I hope Navarro stays because I would love him to remain the starting quarterback at Ohio but let's not assume everything is greener pastures. Navarro had a really successful season for OU and I hope he decides to stay and that OU does what they need to keep him.

I agree with your assessment and logic, however, if Albin can cut him a six figure check, pretty sure that will eliminate any risk. He's got one year left of playing this game and is coming off a championship season. There's nothing to lose and only $$$ to gain. The risk, IMO, is going to a program that's not Ohio or Charlotte.

No one is talking about it, but UNCC already has a pretty good QB.

Purdie. Who was a freshman. And at Tim's press-conference.

I think Parker is worth more to us than he is to them. Though certainly, Tim would want some sort of continuity and coach in the qb room to help ease the transition. (So would we)

The real question is does he view his exciting season as a result of Brian's offense or Tim's direction and where can he replicate it? And does he have to compete for the job at UNCC?

Purdie entered the portal the day after Albin arrived, joined shortly thereafter by top receiver O’Mega Blake (25 ypc!)

Oh wow. They posted a picture of them together on their instagram. Life comes at ya fast! lol

Certainly isn't gonna be easier with Belechick allegedly accepting the role at UNC (Reddit is all over it right now)

It probably can't get any worse as far as returning production as us last year, so I think that he can work through. Where I think it will hurt is depth and “program guys.” They are already at 30 in the portal, whereas at this point last year we were at 10. Most of our guys actually left after Spring ball. When they bring them in, will they have the program leaders like we did? We still had plenty of guys coming off 10-win seasons in the building. They don't have a single guy in the building with a winning record at that school.

Talent wise, too, it will probably be different than the Solich rebuild. There was no portal so when Frank arrived he had Dion Byrum, Matt Muncy, Ahmona Maxwell, Kalvin McRae, Tyler Russ, TJ Wright. Plenty of talent that ended up in NFL camps at the least. He had a QB, too, in Everson.

Solich had to bring culture to talent. Last year, Albin brought talent to culture. Bringing in talent and program guys will be a monumental challenge, but there will be plenty of Jerseys out there for sure.

Hoping someone can get it confirmed that Navarro has another year. This answer and his plans are HUGE for our outlook in 2025. Sure hope it is true he has been granted another year, and hope he wants to run it back with coach Smith. The improvement seen this year was fun to watch and I'd love to see it continue.

???????

Not questioning your sources, I just don’t understand how things work anymore. I’m assuming an injury one year would be taken into account?

2 years would be wild, but he certainly wouldn't be the first guy to have 7 years in the NCAA. Very happy to hear it looks like he will be back as our guy next year.

Considering he is already listed as a Graduate student, he's going to have a few degrees when he is done. Masters? Doctorate?

He just got his masters in management and walked a few weeks ago. If I had to guess... next stop MBA. That should fill enough time if he wants to stay.

I thought that Smith ended his discussion about Navarro with something like Best wishes or whatever, sounds to me like he’s not staying but maybe I heard what he said wrong. I may listen again.

So I listened again and he ended “we’re exited for him “

I guess that could mean a lot of different things. No indication in that statement that he’s coming back in my opinion.

I heard him say, something like "I'm not going to speak for Parker" and "we're excited for him"...I took that to mean that Coach Smith is acknowledging that it's PN's decision to make when he chooses to make it.
