I just finished trolling the Redsucks message board and pondered "where did the rivalry go?" So many issues came to mind in answering. A few follow: Fiami students don't care about football. Back in the day the students turned out in droves and, unlike OU students, stayed for the entire game. While it has always been speculated that the OU students always leave after the 110 performance, I have theorized that they leave to go to the restroom someplace other than the 1940's style roadside rest restrooms on the student side. The student side at Oxford is wonderful. Great concessions and up to date restrooms, yet they cannot sustain a large student attendance. Their high school style band obviously doesn't have any appeal. I used to think Fiami hated us because we didn't have to drive to Indiana to get beer. We could walk in any bar or carryout in Athens and get 3.2% beer. Now they have their own "beer joints" if you are 21+. I don't really have a reason to hate Fiami but it's been a tradition, a rivalry. Now, for the fans, it's just a rivalry in the press. The players feel it, though. They may not know why but they feel it. I feel it and even though we have owned them recently, this game always bothers me. I do not desire losing to anyone, but a loss to the Redsucks is totally unacceptable. Just throwing a little sarcastic gasoline on the smoldering embers.

The Rivalry will be reborn when both teams have something to play for when we meet

Today helped. Miami is not as bad as 0-5 record indicates and they have some good young talent. The frosh QB experienced baptism under fire and faired well, except for the fumble for TD. The targeting penalty that was recalled won't be forgotten either.
