Even the Messenger? Why did they use University for Ohio but not Miami? Even in a headline, for God's sake... save some space. Ridiculous.

Like it or not they wrote it that way so their readership knew what they were talking about.

Balderdash. The Messenger has many, many stories each week on the Sports pages that refer to our local institution of higher education as simply "OHIO." And, they didn't need "University" for Miami either as no one reading this story would have thought they were talking about the "University of Miami," otherwise known as "Miami (Fl)."

I would wager that more folks around town refer to OU as "the university" than they do as OHIO.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Pete the last few years. He truly is a superfan.

In my experience NO ONE knows more about our teams than Pete and NO ONE cares more about our student athletes success on and off the field than Pete.

He is an outstanding asset to our athletic department.

I will say the campaign to refer so the university as Ohio is working--at least it is working outside of Ohio. Tennessee leading up to the game and afterward has referred to us only as Ohio. I admit it's not a norm for me personally, but it is becoming more accepted.

On the other hand, Butch Jones referred to us as Ohio U. Old habits die hard.

Pete is a fine man. I've enjoyed getting to know him over the years. We are lucky to have him helping out the athletic dept.

So what? The folks in Ann Arbor, where my youngest daughter got her bachelor's degree, most often say "the university" or "UMich" when referring to their institution of higher education. So does that mean that in an athletic context one should say the "University of Michigan" when referring to them but just "Ohio State" when referring in the same article to the junior institution in Cowtown?
