Several true Freshmen played yesterday. A bit of a surprise to me. According to the game participation report the following played: Tyler Tupa,Ryan Leuhrman, Jared Dorsa, Eric Popp and Dylan Conner. And of course Vinny Emmanuel.

Dorsa, Popp and Conner were all recruited as LB's. They must figure into plan to fill the departure of Brown and a year later Poling and Moore.

The listed participation report frequently has errors.

Tupa played and looked well-prepared. I was impressed with how Hagan and he defended together on a tricky underneath route. Good communication and reads. Our young guys in the defensive backfield will continue to take their lumps at times, but I like the way this group can shape up in the long-term.

If I recall, Tupa also saw time on special teams.

Good to hear. Might make it easier to free up Bo Hardy for more RB duty.

Was #3 on offense/defense? What did you see #3 doing? Might it have been an issue of a torn jersey replaced?

I know I saw them on special teams. Might of been defense too.

Popp (#34) definitely played.

Also listed is DL Knock, a walkon WR. I don't trust the participation reports too much, but it certainly appears that a lot of Bobcats played. Other names that I see mentioned who may have made their first appearance, or at least, who don't play regularly include Brian Arp, Sam McKnight, Malik Rodriguez, Seth Myers, Jacob Koons, Kyle Kuhar, and Marshal Davis. I note that they went 5 deep at tight end, and played 14 defensive linemen.

TE - Mangen, Morgan, C. Brown, Ryan Luehrman, Rodriguez
DL - Basham, Laseak, Robbins, Smart, Porter, Sayles, Berger, Strobel, Aloese, Chukwu, Kurhar, McKnight, Arp, Davis

#3 had no name on his jersey and played in the front row for kick returns.

Brad Ellis wears #3 on gamedays according to Arkley.
