Seems as though Chuck Landon wasn't overly impressed with "The Turds" performance against the Zips.

Akron 65 Marshall 38

OFFENSE: (F-) It committed four turnovers with one leading to a touchdown.

DEFENSE: (F--) It allowed the most points in regulation in Edwards Stadium history.

SPECIAL TEAMS: (F---) It had a punt blocked for a touchdown.

COACHING: (F----) The Herd didn't seem excited to play.

OVERALL: (F-----) It was the worst performance in the history of "The Joan."

Louisville invades "The Joan" next Saturday night. Good times!

Chuck's new adjectives to describe losing to a MAC team: "unthinkable", "indignity", "pride lowering".

Not one kind word for the Zips.

Obviously, does not believe in the bcat2 mantra of giving credit to the conquering foe. More along the lines of Monroe's posts?

Next week's article after they get completely annihilated by Louisville will be something about how the two teams were on even footing not that long ago and how pathetic it is that Marshall was not able to keep up 🙄

What the Marshall fans (most of them) fail to realize is that they only won in the MAC because they had Pennington and Leftwich (and Moss) at that time. They were fortunate to get 2 good QBs in a row. They dropped off when those were gone. No different than NIU getting Harnish and then Lynch. Miami dropped after Roethlisberger, Toledo after Gradkowski, UCF after Bortles. Recently they had another good year - when Cato was a senior, unsurprisingly. Now he's gone.

They want to believe otherwise, that they have superior talent all around. But it probably is not the case.

An let's be honest, if the Cards can lay 60+ on FSU, the severity of the beat down in that game is going to be U.G.L.Y.

I know we always laugh about it, but I'd love to have them back in the MAC, especially if we could just shuffle Ypsilanti C.C. out in their place.

Don't forget HOW they got Pennington and Moss, both benefitted by being able to "transfer" down before Marshall came up to DI from IAA

And in fairness, they had some great talent at all positions back then.

The nice thing about not having Marshall in the MAC is Ohio can claim West Virginia as its sphere of influence for the MAC. Marshall is the West Virginia team for the MAC when in it and cuts into Southern Ohio. Without a city its nice that Ohio can represent a wide territory of counties.

Nobody in WV cares about the MAC anymore. They still root for Marshall or WVU and still don't care about Ohio at all. Marshall was great for the MAC for many reasons. They had a lot of NFL talent and took about 10,000 fans with them to almost every road game. The MAC was a lot more interesting back then.

I miss Marshall in the MAC. They have what very few MAC teams have - a campus and community that supports football. And fans that travel. I'd take them back in a second.

That's all they bring, and the program has a well-documented history of cheating. Their academics are middling at best. Basketball sucks.

I like playing them every year or two due to proximity and fan interest, but I have no desire to share a conference with them again.

I'm sure they spent a lot of simoleons in Athens, too. I know they are probably the closest D1 program not from the BIG to Athens but they put more butts in seats the years we played them here than probably every other opponent combined. We have a legit D1 college football atmosphere in Peden when they come. Granted we do most Saturday home games but the electricity isn't always there.

Agreed though about them being that crusty shady cousin you see once a year or less more so than being someone you work with every day. Football was their only strong sport they brought and it was during the golden era of the program and it hasn't sniffed it since.

Many of my most successful clients went to Marshall, as well as many of my closest friends. Marshall's campus is much improved over where it was 20 years ago. In addition to Ohio, my sons will likely have Marshall on their short list of colleges in the next few years. I love OU, but I also realize that our superiority gap among the regional universities has all but disappeared.

As someone who grew up in Toledo, only thing that ticked me off is how Chryst gave them the MAC Championship every year in Huntington. Seriously, talk about hosing the rest of the MAC for making us go there. Glad we gave them the benefits so that they could go run into the "sunset" of Conference USA. Good riddance. Hope we never let em back in the MAC.

Never had a team who I was rooting for per se but that did seem a little unfair to me. I remember watching that entire was it 1999 championship game when Western Michigan ran out to a big lead and Marshall came back to win in the final minute or so? You know being on their home field and the magic it had in that era was a major boost for the comeback. Then again Marshall probably would have brought a big contingent to Kalamazoo or Ford Field, too. Glad the game is at a neutral site now and I bet the players like the experience of being in a NFL facility as most will never get that experience as a player otherwise.

Something like 117 pts given up in less than two games. They're hiding the sharp objects in Huntington.

Now 28, with the starters back in for Looval. Final 59-28. Not great, but looks much better than BGSU's score. ;-0

Their grades improved.

Louisville 59, MU 28

OFFENSE: F – Its ineptness was matched only by its unimaginativeness.

DEFENSE: D – It was on the field too long early.

SPECIAL TEAMS: C – It came up with a turnover on a fumbled punt.

COACHING: F – No excuse for not having an experienced backup QB.

OVERALL: F – Marshall didn’t give a near-capacity crowd much to watch.
