The one thing I've always wanted to see was for Ohio to dominate at home and it never does. They've never gone undefeated at home under this staff. I keep waiting for it to happen and it just seems like there is no home field advantage for this team. Some of the losses are just bizarre, like 2013 Kent, 2011 Ball State, 2009 Kent and 2006 BGSU.

Some of the losses are excusable losses to good teams, but others are just pure head scratchers.

2016: Texas State (2-4), EMU (5-2)

2015: WMU (8-5)

2014: BGSU (8-6), NIU (11-3)

2013: CMU (6-6), Kent (4-8)

2012: BG (8-5)

2011: Ball State (6-6)

2010: Toledo (8-5)

2009: UConn (8-5), Kent (5-7)

2008: CMU (8-5), Buffalo (8-6), BGSU (6-6)

2007: Wyoming (5-7), Kent (3-9)

2006: BGSU (4-8)

2005: Toledo (9-3), Miami (7-4)

Hard to believe, considering how loud and intimidating our fans are.

The past few years isn't surprising, given there's always that month or so in the season where it looks like they forgot how to play football.

I think we can tie this thread together to what OUCountry is saying. The crowd just isn't into it.

We have such great success at the Convo because the crowd makes it a very hostile environment. At Peden, the crowd just sits and enjoys the sun until after the 110 performs. Then they head to the bars. It doesn't matter if it's a one-point game or a 40-point game.

I took a picture from my seats of the crowd as the 110 played Stand up and Cheer between the 3rd and 4th quarters. 95% of the crowd was on their feet clapping and singing. Immediately afterwards, the first play of the 4th quarter was a critical 3rd and 5 for EMU holding onto a 3 point lead. I took a picture of the crowd from my seats in 105 and there might be 12 people standing and making noise. In less than 30 seconds, everyone sat down to quietly allow EMU to go about their business.

Basically, our fans are idiots. It's embarrassing that our fans only cheer for the 110. I love the 110, but I am there primarily to watch a football game. I am certainly in the minority. I truly believe the crowd would be guilted into standing up and cheering if the team was on the Tower side of the field. When a player turns to the crowd and asks them to get on their feet, they oblige. Until that bush league administrative rule is abolished, our fans will never cheer for the team outside of scores and turnovers.

I'm disappointed in the crowd's level of participation as well. I sit in Sec.6 Row 3 on the Tower side. We bring and wave the green Ohio flag, D-fence on 3rd down, and "OU OhYeah" to try to encourage fan participation. Other than those immediately around us the participation is very limited. I really believe if the students could show more enthusiasm the "tower siders" would be apt to join in as well. I truly think the key to a rowdy stadium begins with the students. Maybe some of those students roaming the stands on the student side holding signs saying "Make Noise" could stumble over to the tower side. Or better yet, make more signs and have someone(s) permanently assigned to the Tower side.
The lack of an interactive video board doesn't help matters any either. I hope that when the new academic center is built the "powers that be" will install a new state-of-the-art digital video board on that complex that can be seen from anywhere in Peden.
Rant over...

Fan expectations beat down after so many years of no MACC.

Can we be surprised at the lack of enthusiasm?

It ain't gonna change without meeting the goal: MACC.

Those of you who want to argue that MACC is not the goal. Forget it. See the poll in which about 70% of about 55 respondes (which is a lot of responses on this site) said MACC is #1.

And, it's the main point of the program and being in the MACC. The recent post on this board are generally swinging that way.

I'm not 100% on board with this, but I'm not 100% disagreeing either. The expectation for success probably keeps butts in seats and gets more butts in seats. Fun to watch and winning creates more enthusiasm. As was said elsewhere, the 1 1/2 years where TT was the QB were pretty exciting years to watch, and the building was, let's just say, a little louder. Getting to Detroit should be the goal, and I believe it is. But getting really close and being really fun to watch while doing so could accomplish the same thing with regard to home field advantage.

But there are other factors worth considering:

Time of the game. I harp on this all the time, I know, but why not schedule at minimum, one night game during the warmer months? The home opener, on the student side was HOT. Night game(s) solve that. If not night, why not 3-4pm instead? Why are we married to 2pm kickoffs and tip-offs?

Beer & food. I've never been one to say we'd sell more tickets to anything if beer was sold. That being said, it can't possibly hurt, and that's just my opinion. Some might actually come, or stay longer with that in mind. Food is a bigger issue. I left a game a little early this year because I wanted something more than popcorn, Snickers, or a hotdog. I know the facilities aren't there for that stuff right now, but it could be made to become the goal to have those things.

What's done during the "dead time". TV timeouts aren't going away. What happens that could be more fun inside the stadium could be changed, and is within the control of Ohio Athletics to work with. Done right, there have to be some things that could be done to improve the atmosphere and therefore home field advantage.

I'd like to see more traditional noon kickoffs to be honest. Ohio State barely ever plays at noon anymore if that is what we're trying to avoid there. They're more likely to be at 3:30 or primetime than anything, which is perfect timing for a student who wants to see the 110 at halftime, then leave to go watch the Bucks. Move the kicks to noon and it solves that problem a little bit.

If it's the MAC offices controlling when the ball is kicked then they seriously need to take a look at themselves. I can't imagine that the networks wouldn't let a 2:00pm game be bumped to Noon, especially if it's just an ESPN3 broadcast.

Those of us who have long drives - in my case 165 miles each way - much appreciate early kickoffs.

There's a flip side of those noon kickoffs: People driving that distance have to get up really early on a weekend to get to Athens. And many students don't like early kickoffs, we know that.

That year when we rock it, when we're legit MAC title contenders getting national note (as WMU this year)--I bet all clock and distance, etc, concerns fade.

And Peden will rock.

I agree with Monroe..... Waiting for earth to implode.... huh, didn't happen....

One reason why I love playing Marshall in Peden is their fans show up and embarass our fans into being, well, normal college fans.

Our fans have the 80% of life is showing up thing down. We get fans to show up. Cheering and staying.... we have work to do. The weird thing for me is it has been this way for 30 years now. That's amazing....

I've been to every game this season with the exception of Kansas...We HAVE to put a better offensive unit on the field. This team is BORING to watch. I love the Bobcats, but the football is so bland and unexciting. I can't get into the games.

We need a big win at home like the Pittsburgh victory or a BCS upset. The fans were excited when we beat Pittsburgh and Penn State. These fans can't get hype for Eastern Michigan.

I think we have a decent offensive unit. I think a lot of it has to do with how they're coached and the plays/scheme they're being asked to run. It also doesn't help that every five minutes there's a 3-4 minute TV timeout.

Clinton-Trump race; NIU and BG in last place; now this. What next?????

Getting a win over a supposedly good "P"5 team helps energize the team and the crowds, There was a different feel a few years ago after we beat Penn St. Beating Tenn might've helped this year.
