Watching the game a few things stand out as chronic issues:

1.I've noticed for several years that we seem to suffer a defensive letdown right after we score.

2.We give up stupid penalties, usually at critical points in games.

3.We don't seem to have, for lack of a better word,"special" plays like Texas State used in O.T.

One positive I did see is that we never gave up.
A better snap on the last 2 point play and the game could still be going on.
Two of these three points have nothing to do with Albin.
That was the point I was trying to get across.

You can criticize Albin for some of our problems, but there are other issues as well.

No shame in losing to the Longhorns by two in overtime.
I hope this is a joke.
My fault. No shame in losing to the Aggies.

What is the point of play action on 3rd and 12?
That actually makes sense since we twice ran between the tackles on 3rd and 10+.

DFC, even my 12 year old grandsons asked me that same question. When someone knows you will pass, WHY?

You guys know that Albin is the Offensive coordinator right? I think this would be more suitable a fire Jimmy Burrow thread. We did give up 56 points to one of the worst teams in America!
His awful defensive calls lost us the Camellia Bowl too.

If when we are in the market for a head coach again how about this guy from Texas State?.I think he had a brilliant gameplan and was very impressive in his presser.

Nope! The defense is what we thought it would be: A good front 7 (only 106 rushing yards surrendered in a game that went to 3OT to go with 6 sacks), and an inexperienced secondary. I'm not shocked we gave up 440 yards passing when we were daring them to throw the out route over and over, and they did. You can complain that's a scheme problem, but again, we knew our corners were going to be inexperienced, so I get why we played such soft coverage. Could we have adjusted? Sure, but then we risk giving up an easy score deep.

And I think a big part of the problem our defense had was a result of the offense's poor performance. Not counting the end of the first half, we had 16 possessions. Of those 16 possessions, we had a grand total of one that lasted more than four minutes. In the 2nd quarter, we went 3 plays for -40 yards, 3 for 5 yards, 3 for -3 yards, and 4 plays for 23 yards. We scored 0 points.

If the offense can't sustain a drive in the first half, you can't be shocked when the defense gets fatigued and gives up big plays in the second half.

We gave up 56 points to TX State (18 in OT). To Texas State.

You cannot hold the front seven blameless.

Blameless? No. There were some bad breakdowns. The QB's 40 yard run to set up a TD late, and Blair Brown's dumb dumb dumb DUMB unnecessary roughness penalty pop into mind. But overall, I am not going to complain about the front 7 too much.

The D line got good pressure on the QB pretty consistently. He just made the throws against the soft coverage we gave him. Maybe the LBs didn't cover well on their coverage assignments? I don't know, I wasn't disciplined enough watching it live to see what they were doing in pass D.

The defense had how many sacks? And I'm not sure any were on blitz schemes.

Average rush play was what, 3 yards? Take out that 40 yard scramble and it's 1.5?

At how many reps do you begin to allow for fatigue?

I don't think the problem is the front 7.

Bump.

With 12 minutes to go vs. Kent, here's our offense on the day:

5 plays, 27 yards, punt
2 plays, 49 yards, TD
3 plays, 0 yards, punt
3 plays, -1 yard, punt
12 plays, 81 yards, TD
4 plays, 68 yards, fumble
3 plays, 12 yards, INT
3 plays, 7 yards, punt
3 plays, 9 yards, punt
3 plays, 5 yards, punt

The rest of the game we went:

5 plays, 29 yards, punt
8 plays, 28 yards, end of game

His play calling is OK - The plays just suck. I think they may be using the play book that Cliff Heffelfinger put together around 1952.

Actually, it was the playbook of Pudge Heffelfinger, Cliff's ancestor, from the 1880s. Just wait til OHIO runs the flying wedge! ;-)

This goes so beyond the usual ripping on albin for the inconsistencies in our offense. This is the most abysmal thing I've ever seen. This is 1994 lichty offense terrible. I don't even know what to think at this point...coaching, players, execution, penalties? Everything is falling right now.
