Comparing our QB and offense to Tom Brady is ludicrous. And I'm not talking about the rapper.

I thought Matt Johnson/coach Babers was the college example used.

I remember not too far back, TT running a decent no-huddle. Checking the sideline for a new play seemed to be an integral part of the effectiveness of that O. The coaches know how to do it.

interesting comments on twitter-

The Post tweeted that Ohio's last 6 possessions were INT, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt with only 1 fist down.

former Bobcat Mike McQueen forwarded that tweet to Coach Isphording and asked him if that was Windham's line would he pull him. Derrius Vick retweeted McQueen's tweet.

Looks like some former Bobcats aren't pleased with the QB change.

They may be concerned about results, not the change itself. Anybody watching the game had to be thinking the same thing. A little of what we saw last year at the end of the year.

Wow, Vick may feel slighted after being pulled last year. I think the coaches wanted to see what Maxwell could do. He looks ok, he and Windham are ok. We need them to get better. The holding Vick out of the bowl game for a suspicious injury may have costed us a W last year, but who knows. What a mess? Ex players questioning the coaches motives.

For what it's worth, here are the year to date passing stats:
Windham 120-214, 56.1%, 9 TDs, 3 Ints, 5.99 yds/throw, Pass Efficiency 115.9
Maxwell 29-42, 69.0%, 3 TD's, 2 Ints, 8.76 yds/throw, Pass Efficiency 156.7

As for yards on the ground, it's:
Windham 78 carries, 350 yards, 4.5 yds/carry, 3 Tds
Maxwell 10 carries, 42 yards, 4.3 yds/carry, 0 tds

I have been a supporter of both Windham and Maxwell for a long time. I like both of them. Windham has done some very good things this year, but he's also been erratic at times. I can easily understand why the coaches gave Maxwell a try, and Maxwell has also done some good things.

Another reason to consider playing Maxwell is that Windham will be gone after this year, while Maxwell has his career in front of him, and experience gained by Maxwell will carry forward to next year and beyond. If Windham is clearly better, he should be played. If they are equal, I'd alternate them, or lean to the younger QB.

In any case, the answer to McQueen's question would obviously appear to be no. Ohio didn't do much better in the 2d half against Miami than they did against Kent, and Windham did not get pulled, presumably because Ohio was ahead. The situation against Kent was similar, and the coaches behaved similarly. Against EMU it was quite clear that Maxwell played better, so I don't see any controversy in him getting the start against Kent.

I'll flesh this out later with some statistics, but there's a fine article on the changes in college football over the last few years.

It's basically out of Baylor and the Briles' super fast offense.

GET A CLUE FOLKS: THIS STAFF IS STUCK IN THE 80'S (AT MOST RECENT), GIVES US STRATEGIC DEFICIT AND REFUSES TO ADJUST.

T O A S T.

RECRUITING--DEAD.

We are so far away from modern college football and we refuse to change.

L.C., honestly, I like you. And I like vigoruous debate with you. But your analysis is like Solich's coaching. Soooo off the mark. You're proceeding from a viewpoint that we're basically okay.

Anyone who's seen us a bit over the past four years knows that's anything but true. Try the chat room these days--no hope and real disappointment at how bad we are. On the threads here, see how even those who have opposed my stuff for years (for whatever reason) are pretty much all in line with me now or hold their tongue because they have to admit the truth.

This staff is history.

Someday, but not on your schedule. It'll be on Frank's schedule. Nothing you say here, with all the brilliance of your Certified Pigskin Analyst insights, will hasten that day by one minute. I hope that this doesn't come as a big surprise to you.

let's play a round of Would You Rather-

Marshall hired Doc Holliday at the start of the 2010 season. To date Holliday is 52-33. By comparison, Solich's record during that time is 53-33.

2010-
Herd: 5-7(4-4).
Ohio: 8-5(6-2), Bowl (L).

2011-
Herd: 7-6(5-3), Bowl (W).
Ohio: 10-4(6-2), Bowl (w), Conf Champ (L).

2012-
Herd: 5-7(4-4).
Ohio: 9-4(4-4), Bowl (W).

2013-
Herd: 10-4(7-1), Bowl (W), Conf Champ (L).
Ohio: 7-6(4-4), Bowl (L).

2014-
Herd: 13-1(7-1), Bowl (W), Conf Champ (W).
Ohio: 6-6(4-4).

2015-
Herd: 10-3(6-2), Bowl (W), Conf Champ (L).
Ohio: 8-5(5-3), Bowl (L).

2016 (to date)-
Herd: 2-5(1-2)
Ohio: 5-3(3-1)

Overall record-
Herd: 52-33(34-17)
Ohio: 53-33(32-19)

Bowl record-
Herd: 4-0
Ohio: 2-3

Conf championships-
Herd: 1-2
Ohio: 0-1

With identical records over 6.5 seasons would you trade Ohio's results and current trajectory for Marshall's?

Looks like a few current players (Nick Gibbons, Ceth Miller, and Papi White) also liked the tweet.

Not a real fair comparison in my mind. Herd has had a little bit tougher schedules over that time and in a better league for most of that time.

2010
Herd played OSU & WVU
SOS 90th

2011
Herd played WVU, UofL, VaTech
SOS 66th

2012
Herd played WVU, Purdue
SOS 111th

2013
Herd played Va Tech, beat Maryland in bowl
SOS 121st

2014
Herd played garbage MAC OOC Miami, Ohio, Akron...but cracked rankings & finished ranked
SOS 109th

2015
Herd played garbage OOC...Ohio, Kent, Purdue
SOS 128th...worst in country

2016
Herd played Pitt, Lousiville, Akron
SOS 83rd

Avg SOS 101st

Ohio SOS
2016: 120th of 128
2015: 95th of 128
2014: 117th of 128
2013: 114th of 125
2012: 123rd of 124
2011: 111th of 120
2010: 119th of 120

Avg 114th

Nonconf notable opponents for Ohio
2016 Kansas, Tennessee
2015 Minnesota
2014 Kentucky
2013 North Texas, Lousiville
2012 Penn State, NM State (cracked rankings)
2011 Rutgers, NM State
2010 Lafayette, OSU

And most importantly if you asked a random person if they knew Marshall or Ohio football...what would the answer be. I'd guess Marshall 2/3 of the time at least.

I'm not saying I'd rather be Marshall...in fact, I hate them. But their "brand" is more well known.

Going 7-5 vs garbage competition every year isn't anything to get excited about...see our fan base for confirmation.

I think maybe slightly more people know Marshall but only because of the Randy Moss years. I doubt anything Marshall has done lately is of any more significance than Ohio to a fan of neither team. In fact, the midweek MACtion games probably help bring more awareness to Ohio than anything Marshall has done.

I'm not asking which team was better, I'm asking which team's results would you rather have- Ohio's steady level of some success or Marshall's extreme highs and extreme lows.

All of the SOS and OOC opponents stuff and asking random people about brand recognition is way off topic, but I will say that those differences you perceive are tiny. TINY. Marshall's program has not spent the better part of the last 6.5yrs on another level compared to Ohio in those regards. Simply not true. The most relevant stat you left off is head to head record.

The herd has one Conference Championship and four Bowl wins since 2010...I would take that.
