Ronnie Moore is better than any offensive player we've had on our team since Brazill left.

I don't know why people are building up Akron when it's Buffalo who has beaten Ohio three out of the last five years.

Let me take a shot at why there is respect for Akron. Sure, Ohio is W-2 vs Akron last two years, but, by only 5 total points. Over the same time frame Ohio outscored NIU by two total points. Akron plays defense, #1 MAC team in total defense, #2 in scoring defense. Finally there is a stat column for streak and Akron currently sits at W-5. Akron is worthy of respect. Buffalo too has earned respect. They have scoreboard on Ohio. Players don't forget that. Is it OK if I respect both Akron and Buffalo?

Of course it's OK, but its crazy to jump to conclusions like that. Nobody knows anything in February. A lot can happen in 6 months.

The doubters can doubt all they want. That's fine. But come December don't start jumping on the bandwagon when Ohio is in Detroit.

You don't want as many fans as possible wearing green at Ford Field if Ohio gets to Detroit?

Forgive me, but tell me why there is supposed to be this immense optimism in these two senior QB's? I can see the optimism in the rest of the roster depth, but the QB position is still a serious question mark in my eyes.

Bump. Did I peg BG's implosion or what?!?! I started this thread way back in early February and look at how accurate this thread title is now.

Nope. The MAC East will go right down to the wire between Ohio and Akron. Ohio will beat Akron in the season finale and head to Detroit for the MACC.

Buffalo has had success vs Ohio in Buffalo. The games in Athens are a much different story. This year's game is in Athens. You can book it.

I wouldn't quantify this as an implosion. An implosion would be something like starting off 7-0 then losing 4 of the last 5.
I beg to differ. Seeing a team that won the MACC last year and get picked to win its division again this year start out 1-7 and while still being winless vs every FBS team it has played, get destroyed not once but twice by allowing 77 points (resulting in the two worst losses in school history), and having a one win Miami team beat you by double figures on your home field would probably qualify as an implosion. And a massive one at that. This looks absolutely nothing like a BG team from over the last 5 years and more resembles the EMU ones we grew accustomed to seeing. And even they weren't this bad.

Oh my!!!!! Here we go again. Convincing ourselves that everyone else will be bad enough that we are automatically winning the east next fall.
Ummm, well, yeah, it pretty much has boiled down to that this year. Has the East ever been this bad before? It's certainly been poor at times, but this year has to be an all time low since divisional play began.

Dear almost Sage of BA: Is this implosion due primarily to a big drop off in talent with the attrition at QB and WR and other positions, or is Jinks the Second Coming of Cleve Bryant?

I know this wasn't directed at me, but it's probably a little of both.

Still, there were preseason mags that were predicting BG to at least share if not win the East Division. The talent is there. Maybe Babers really was just that good of a coach. Syracuse looks very much improved.

How similar or dissimilar is the apparent BG implosion to what happened in Athens in 2001-02? Discuss. Feel free to use an entire Blue Book.

In 2001, despite the coaching change, Ohio was a popular preseason pick to challenge Marshall or at least contend for the top of the MAC.

If nothing else, the mish-mash assembly of the new BG staff looks a lot like what happened here post-Grobe, as the AFA system guys left all at once and seemingly darts were somewhat blindly lobbed at resumes and various recruiting regions/archetypes.

This was my freshman year and I know everything that happened! This is when I "left the team for personal reasons." Actually I got kicked off the team for arguing with coaches. After we lost Florida in the Swamp the coaching staffed turned back to the option and players were frustrated. I got super frustrated in practice when the coaches were intentionally telling scout team members to go the opposite direction to make 1st teamers look good. So scouts werent getting better....they were not giving actual looks and it made our starters suffer. I questioned this strategy because I did not want to digress as a player. So I got kicked off after being pissed off and walking off one practice. Other players did too but I wont say their names. I can only speak for myself. This led to a player-coach disengagement to were we lost respect for the coaches and the will to play for them. Also my senior year 10 minutes before we go out to play (even after pre-game warmups).....AD Thomas Boeh comes in after Solich pre-game speech and suspends 3 starters. He could have done that during game week to give backups more practice time. We lose the game 21-9. The seniors had a meeting and vowed to kick ass the rest of the season. We won 6 MAC games in a row and go bowling after that mishandling of suspensions. The suspensions were valid because of grades but our AD had a responsibility to inform us Monday of GameWeek. Not 10 minutes before we take the field. Those were some bad years before Frank. Thats why I love the old ball coach.

Other Info-

After Knorr staff is fired, Pete Germano remains for recruiting purposes. Fast forward to 2016 and Fresno fires the old Ohio staff and keeps Pete Germano (assuming for recruiting purposes).

Mike Summers (former OU offensive line coach) leaves for Universiry of Louisville. He comes into Peden one day wearing Louisville gear and speaks to me and another player about transferring. Sano informs Knorr on the 4th floor and they come kick him out. I instantly had a meeting with Knorr about transferring and if I left he wouldnt let me go to another MAC school. I decide to stay because Senior Leadership team votes 11-0 to keep me on the team after i got into eith coaching staff.

After that season we hire McDavis who comes and speaks to the team about what Athletic Dept can do to promote winning coach. Council advises McDavis that the culture needed change and we needed someone who wants to coach football....not run a military program. We didnt sign up to play for Navy, Air Force, etc.

All good stories, but not necessarily all factual.

1. Tom Boeh never was the AD while Frank was coaching actual games. Frank's first season was 2005, Boeh left Athens in the spring of 05 with Kirby being hired in June of 2005. So Boeh could not have come in and suspended any players after a Solich pre-game speech.

2. The suspending of the players was the morning after Dispatch article broke the long list of criminal complaints and charges that were filed in Athens (17) that the AD had NO knowledge of, not for grades (2006), to which OHIO went on to win 6 straight and go to our first MACC game.

3. The not releasing players to other conference schools is standard procedure for not only Ohio but most schools and conferences.

4. Summers needed removed from the facilities if he was trying to actively recruit players to transfer from the offices of OHIO Athletics.
