should this come as a surprise? nothing from this season should dictate any other result. offensively we appear incapable of scoring more than a touchdown or two at this point in the season. defense still susceptible to the pass.

i think we could keep it closer than 17 points, but i wouldn't bet (literally) on it.

i'd take the rockets and the points and let's look forward to basketball season.

we really could still win the east, but i think whoever wins the west would be a prohibitive favorite in the MACC.

now, if we play the best game of the season and stop the silly penalties and have imaginative play calling - that could be a different story, but the old adage of doing the same thing over again, time after time and expecting different results is certainly true.

I like green cool aid, but i can't defend what we have become. it is depressing when i agree with monroe, but at this point, i think he has a legitimate pov.

ugh. i just threw up a little...

Ok experts, blow out, close loss, or win? Take your pick.

My guess is BLOW OUT.

If we play like we did against the other UT -- Tennessee -- we win. If we play like we did against Kent we probably lose. I think the team will be jacked up for this one and that it'll be a good game.

Like we did against Kent...or Texas State, or Miami, or Bowling Green, or EMU, or [probably] Kansas

I think our defense will keep it close for the first half but unless our offense moves the ball and stays on the field it could get ugly as our defense gets worn down.

In the words of Donald Trump, I don't see any way that we don't lose this game "big league".

I've watched Toledo a couple times this year and they are on another planet with their offense compared to ours. I'm thinking this will be akin to last year's BG game. Hang for a bit, but our 3-and-out offense will kill us.

Bobcats in a nail biter.

My Court Street sense of optimism is still too fresh to stop believing now.

Also, I do need the experts to tell me which two games on the board we can win to guarantee my Christmas season trip to the Bahamas Bowl?

I think we can hang for a half but I worry about shellshock early on if we get behind. I would like to think that Toledo's RBs, while VERY good, are not on the same level as Jalen Hurd and that Woodside is not Josh Dobbs. That being said, we have to have a truly amazing game from our Front 7. We have to have a transcendent night from our defensive backs. And the 3 LBs need to hammer the crap out of second-level runs. Offensively I don't go into any game anymore thinking we will hang 28 or more points up. If we win this year we will win 21-14 or 14-10 like last week. We can do this, but it will take a supreme effort.

Toledo's offensive and defensive coordinators have got to be licking their chops. This has 30-point loss written all over it. This program is sub-mediocre right now...which is astonishing given our investment over the past 11 years. It's time, Mr. Schaus, though I know you won't force any changes.

This staff is still intact because Schaus, Solich and company believe we have low expectations. This staff (at least the assistants) would be smart to find a similar situation in their next endeavor, say at New Mexico State. I mean, who else would welcome Scott Ipshording back (Frank calls him "Ipsie"; good old boy, "Ipsie from Ypsi") after he bailed on us in the wake of perhaps the single worst recruiting year of the modern Bobcat Football era - which Ipshording directed. We went O-fer for an entire recruiting class, but we bring the guy back when he's looking for work. Low expectations...and yet somehow this staff doesn't even meet those.

My first Ohio road football game as an alumnus came in late 1983...against Kent State. The weather was identical to last Saturday. Cleve Bryant's 'Cats were horrendous for three quarters - down 20-zip - and only through KSU's total mismanagement did we get back into it and win 21-20. We acted like we had won the conference title. My how so little has changed in the intervening 33 years. Ridiculous lack of discipline and accountability. Three clear penalties on a single play. 60 yards of penalties in the first quarter. Horrendous offensive scheme. Confusion in sending in plays at key points. A seeming inability to address and shut down the opposing team's ONE weapon. People were laughing at both teams, and it was embarrassing. Kent State is TERRIBLE. But some on this forum are talking about how we're going to roar into Detroit for the MAC title game. Frankly, if I'm in the MAC office, I'm praying for a better match-up at Ford Field because we'll lose by 40 on national TV. Then, I suppose, Frank will send his brain trust up to Kalamazoo to ask Fleck to teach them how to coach football, just as he did after the Troy debacle. And the AD's marketing mavens will do their magic in the off-season, bragging about another weak schedule and the huge upside of the 2017 Bobcats. We might even sell 10 or 11 more season tickets so we can claim another program record. (But there still won't be hot chocolate or coffee at the concession stand in Peden's "premium" seating section. Gotta give KSU credit on the concessions front - they do it right. We're high school booster club caliber by comparison.)

We have increased our investment in this program 100%+ over the past 11 years, largely on the backs of alumni. Frank wanted an IPF, he got it thanks to the commitment and generosity of many donors. He and his staff have not delivered on their end of the bargain. Am I looking for a dominant program year after year? Not at all. I just expect something several levels above the Keystone Kops that I have seen in multiple games - home and away - over the past several years. It's time for this chapter to end.

I don't feel quite this surly, but there are a lot of valid points here. I'm tired of mucking through the pathetic MAC East at around .500, feasting off a horrendous non-conference schedule, then bragging about bowl eligibility as an objectively poor team. I was at Kent and I cannot remember a less satisfying win. Kent State is bad, but we are barely better.

To get back to the topic at hand, I think Toledo will absolutely destroy this team. Their lowest offensive output all year is 31 points. I don't think Albin could put up 31 against a Pop Warner team.

We could win this. It's certainly possible. No turnovers and a lights-out day from our D might give us a chance. But to paraphrase one of my favorite Griswoldisms... If I woke up tomorrow morning with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I would by a win at Toledo.

I'm pretty confident Toledo rolls at home. Go out and prove me wrong Cats. Show me we're just the 06 team all over again, willing to win 14-10 and 17-10 all year long against anyone.

SBH gets it. The program is stagnant. I have very little faith that the current staff can make the necessary changes to the X's and O's, nor do I think they have the salesmanship to bring in the talent needed to compete with Toledo or WMU in the next several years.

You know, this has been a strange year in a lot of respects. From presidential politics to Indians-Cubs, it seems like the world has turned upside-down. We beat BG for the first time in five years and lost to EMU for the first time in almost 20. Given all this mayhem, this could be the year we finally end the streak vs Toledo. Go Cats!!

Come on SBH, Western has already beaten Akron by 41, so beating us by 40 would be an improvement.

Thanks for your reasonable presentation of our current status. I can't see anything that I really disagree with, but I'm a glutton for punishment, so I'll wait until the end of the year to make my final decision about what to do in the future, but I'm afraid I know what's going to happen anyway. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Living up here I get the opportunity to see Toledo quite often and there could not be a worse match up for us. We're not the type of team to get into an offensive shootout against a team that can score at will. Take Toledo to cover the 17 and run.

We can't compete with the top tier of the MAC West this year. With a RS Frosh QB at the helm, another 7-5 year with a bowl trip is our best hope. I hope I'm wrong but haven't seen anything this year to suggest otherwise.
