I agree with LC that we need to be 5-0 against the East. I also agree we need to take this one game at a time. If we get really up on BG, sub as many players as possible to rest/let heal our starters and also get others real game experience. Finally, thank the Good Lord we do not face WMU in regular season play. Going to both Toledo and CMU will be more than enough.

I only worry about Akron because they can throw the ball. Hopefully, Windham will be dialed in.

We need Papi and Dorian back and Cope. I love what I see from Irons and Belack as young guys but options are needed.
I think Irons has regressed. Perhaps due to injury? But he has less yards and 3 fewer TDs in more attempts than he had last year.

Ohio has had one bad offensive performance. Some are emphasizing that as the true character of this offense. Hopefully, that was an aberration. Miami did a darn good job of covering our receivers.

It's different running in prime time minutes than it is in mop up time. Still has things to learn.

He's going up against the 1st team defense this year. He rarely did that last year. He's going to be a great one, IMHO, but those who thought he was ready for primetime last year perhaps didn't know what they were talking about. I'll admit that I was one of those that thought he should have gotten more non-garbage playing time last years, but he didn't so he's got some OJT this year. I suspect he'll get better each week and by the end of the season we'll be seeing the kind of RB that will make us all very proud.

#21 has been hanging with his OL. I have seen him lead block like a true FB and when #14 once kept instead of pitching #21 still managed to be his QB's personal protector at the end of the play. Blocking in space takes time to go from "watch out" to "follow me." #21 has a way to go before it appears instinctual, but, I believe he is "willing" and that is most of it.

I think Irons looks better this year. He's running lower, and harder. No, he hasn't had the big runs, but he's not against tired defenses. I still think he's going to be a very good back, and that by the end of the year, he will have some big runs.

Due to injury...

Solich on winning with less than 200 yards of total offense:
“You don’t win very many games that way. They were to a point where they ended up using their second team quarterback, who really was their third team because their second team ended up getting hurt in practice. That made things a little more difficult for them. Our running back situation was not ideal going in to this game. Maleek played, but he was not at full speed. He didn’t have much practice for the last two weeks, he probably wasn’t in good shape, but he played. As he plays though, he will continue to get back in to his old self. Bo gives you a lot, but he is still only two weeks in to running our offense, so that hurt us a little. There were other things that didn’t look as good as I hoped we’d look at this point in time in the season. We have been making progress on both sides of the ball game by game, but we stalemated ourselves on the offensive side.”

EMU is hanging in there against Toledo right now. They aren't a juggernaut, but they definitely don't stink this year. We should beat them though.

EMU will be the second best team we have played so far. that tells you how bad our schedule has been. We've beaten nobody, at least they've beaten Wyoming who has a winning record.

It's hard to beat a team with a winning record when your division doesn't have any. That's life in the MAC East. We might face only six bowl-eligible teams all season (TxSt, Tenn, EMU, Toledo, CMU, maybe Akron). We're already 0-2 against this group. The best we can hope for is maybe 2-4.

I'm not even talking about the MAC east. Texas State will be 2-4 after today, Miami 0-6, Kansas 1-5, BGSU is 1-5, Gardner -Webb whatever. That is some real suckage. I'm just saying that we have not beat nobody who has a pulse. Can we ever beat a team with a winning record to get some idea how good or bad we really are? EMU will be more of a true test than anybody we've played so far (ex Tenn).

As I have said in the scheduling equation for Ohio, our schedule is built to go 7-5 or 8-4 every year

You can psychoanalyze it all you want, but we're 4-2 with a solid game vs Tennessee.

Feels different this year, the db's are getting better and better, the coaches are making adjustments. The playcalling needs to get better. We got the W. If we beat Eastern and Kent, we will be in good position.

I'm expecting that we'll be about a 6 point favorite. I think that if the line is up close to a TD I'd bet on EMU. They have beaten a bunch of bad teams but so has Ohio.

By the game time we will be asked to believe that EMU is MAC juggernaut beyond belief. They are better this year but how could they be any worse?

It will be the same weekly diatribe until we play Toledo.

Once this team plays error free and execute up to our potential no one in the MAC East should be a problem.

The line actually opened at 10, but it has moved to 8.5. It will probably be under a touchdown by kickoff.

I'd like to see the red zone defense be better before I say no one is gonna touch Ohio. They did have one nice stand to hold BG to a FG inside the 5. I don't have the stat in front of me, but I have to think we are one of the worst teams in red zone defense.

The BG win didn't change the MAC East conversation from last week. Nothing was locked up. Ohio is 3 games up on BG and Miami in the East with 6 games to go and that is all we can say. A win next week against EMU and an Akron loss against WMU gives Ohio first place in the MAC East with 5 games to go.
