Bump. Anyone still not convinced?
Let you know after tonight. The Cubs being World Champions (how weird is it to say that???) is the latest in a slew of oddities that have occurred during this wacky year. After the Toledo win I yelled "You gotta believe!" But anything can happen.

Remember, we're only 2-2 at home this year, and the losses were to teams we should have beaten.

Still not convinced? I think there are some people on here who will still be worried Ohio won't get to Detroit because they fear the buses will break down.

Not to mention the shuttle buses from the hotel to Ford Field ;)

I'm not going to count Miami(or Akron) out just yet. They just beat EMU, who we lost to. Let's see how they fare tonight vs CMU. If they beat CMU, that will put the pressure back on us to beat CMU next week.

Miami only has Buffalo and Ball St left and if Miami beats CMU and we don't, we are tied. Yes we have the tiebreaker but it would make that Akron game huge.

We would almost have to try to lose the MAC East.

There are some impressively bad teams in the MAC East.

Okay. I get it. Many of you are now readying your posts attacking me for saying that. Good for you. You're on your game.

But note that the other teams in the MAC East are 14-32 overall. Clearly that includes games in which MAC East teams played each other. I imagine that the record of MAC East teams excluding their games against each other is something like 6-24. Some bad football.

Yes, we've been a lot better over the last two games (one of which was against a team in MAC West). But some consideration for the quality of ball in the MAC East is needed.

I think that the MAC East other than Ohio is 8-17 in Games outside the MAC East.

Does that make sense? If 14-32 overall, doesn't each game within the MAC East have a winner and loser such that the same number of games would be subtracted from the win column as the loss column?

Therefore, if 18 games under .500 overall, still have to be 18 games under .500 when one excludes MAC East games.

The MAC East is lousy.

0-4 against Ohio doesn't count when excluding MAC East games. It still doesn't come out right. Maybe one of us miscounted.

I lost track of 5 games somewhere. 8-22 is right. That's 18 games under if you include 0-4 against Ohio. Five of the losses are ranked teams. Two of the losses are to FCS teams. Three of the 8 wins are against FCS teams. Ohio is 4-0 against these five and 3-3 against everyone else. The season would look a lot different if we had not used every method under the sun to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against TxSt who is every bit as bad as the BGSU and Buffalo.

LOSSES - 22
Akron - 4
Wisconsin
Appalachian St.
WMU
Toledo

Kent State - 3
Penn St.
N.C. A&T
Alabama

Miami -4
Iowa
E. Illinois
WKU
Cincinnati

Bowling Green - 6
Ohio St.
MTSU
Memphis
EMU
Toledo
Northern Illinois

Buffalo - 5
Albany
Nevada
Boston College
Ball St.
Northern Illinois

WINS - 8
Akron - 3
VMI
Marshall
Ball State

Kent State - 2
Monmouth
CMU

Miami - 1
EMU

Bowling Green - 1
North Dakota

Buffalo - 1

We're definitely the best team in a not very good division, but we are the second or third best team in the MAC at the moment. We still need to win one of these next two to get to Detroit, tho. Fiami is pounding CMU, and they can win out and finish 6-2. We've been at the doorstep before and lost the last game and had to stay home. I'd like to see us win at CMU and not have to worry about Akron. Keep playing like we have and we'll get it done.

My wife says she guarantees a win if OHIO has shuttle buses this time around. She says that's why NIU won last time. They had shuttle buses and we didn't. Before you dismiss this out of hand, remember she is a former Bobcat athlete and a member of Varsity OHIO. ;-)

I keep remembering 2010. We were 6-1 and tied for first with Fiami going into the final game. We even had the tiebreaker in our favor. But we lost at Kent and Fiami won. With our injury situation and Fiami's schedule, a lot can change these next three weeks.

Miami seems to be the bigger threat than Akron now-raise your hand if you saw that coming when the Bobcat bus pulled out of Oxford last month?

Just win, baby!

Fiami DE was charged with felonious assault this week. Knocked a ladder out from under a bar employee as he was being forcibly removed from the bar, per reports. I haven't seen where he has been suspended from the team, but I assume that's the case. We'll see if that makes it a little bit easier to run on Fiami's D, which is best in the conference statistically right now.

Buffalo defends the pass well and the run poorly. Miami doesn't run well and throws a bunch.

Hmm, maybe Buffalo can actually do this. Go Bulls. Muck Fiami.

While having the east wrapped up before we take the field Tuesday would certainly be nice, I know that I would garner a great deal more satisfaction if Ohio goes out and clinches this one on the field in Mt Pleasant. In Smith Barney style... Earrrrrrrn It.

I like that Miami is pushing us a little. Maybe this rivalry fires back up starting next year.

Hand raised. Take a look at my posts after the Miami game. I said something to the effect that this Miami was much better than in previous years and would get better as the season progressed.

Part of me hopes Miami wins on Saturday so we can clinch the East with a big win at CMU on Tuesday. Mainly, I think our offense needs some more competitive reps before the MAC Championship. I think Frank will make sure that happens no matter when we clinch.

I differ in that. I rarely hope they win. ;-)

In this case, it's also out of principle. I don't want a 6-6 team winning the MAC east. It would be embarrassing for the MAC in my opinion.

I also argued at the time that we had just beaten a pretty good team, and that I was expecting Miami to do much better going forward. The consensus at the time was that they were 0-6, and horrible, but I was going based on what I saw in the game, not the record, plus the fact that they have had some of the top recruiting classes in the MAC the last few years.

Ohio is in the drivers seat this year, thanks to that win, and any combination of an Ohio win or a Miami loss wraps it up. Next year I expect it will be Miami and Ohio competing for the top spot again because Martin is making progress in improving Miami.

+1

Now, OHIO just has to keep winning those head-to-head battles.
