Based on the amazing 197 total yards and 10 offensive points against Fiami? I am not counting any chickens.

I wouldn't chalk anything up. It is looking like Akron is going to pull it out in Kent. If Kent State can pull that out Ohio has to be the definitive favorite by default. However, 17-7 against a 0-5 team doesn't prove much.

Miami is 0-5 against a schedule that has only 1 P5 team and an FCS team. That's about as empty of a resume as a team could have at this point. Let's make no mistake, Miami is really bad. However, I do think as bad as they are the P5 team has been ranked all year, two of the G5 teams are fringe top 10 as far as a G5 ranking would go, the FCS team is pretty good by FCS standards, and 4 of the 5 games were close. As bad as they are, they probably aren't as bad as their empty resume makes them look. They are also young and the trip to Oxford in two years might be pretty tough.

Uh, Miami ain't that bad.... They'll win a game or 2 this year. Had Billy Bahl not gotten hurt in the 2nd quarter.....

Kent State took a 27-24 lead on a 4th and 2 from the Akron 9 with a very little time left.

Kent Akron game quite entertaining. Kent just drove 90+ yards to take lead. Kent QB has some moxie.

Yeah, I think they will too. But does a 10 point win against a team that will win a game or two make us clear the MAC East favorite. If Kent State holds on then I think that it does. However, that's by default. Akron is close to FG range.

If we can't get our offense working, we could lose to anybody. Well maybe not Buffalo. I'm feeling better about the defense, but we're not going to hold anybody else we play to 7 points.

The MAC East is so weak. Ohio has got to get its offense figured out or we will not walk away with anything!

At this point it looks like the only three contenders for the MAC East will be Ohio, Akron, and Miami. With a win over Miami, Ohio is in the drivers seat. Now they need to take care of business.

I wouldn't count the Zips out, or underestimate the Zips...starting QB, Tommy Woodson was out with a shoulder injury, and it took backup Tra'Von Chapman a half to get settled. Zips found a way to win, with their backs up against the wall. Had Woodson started, this game wouldn't have even been close.

Zips are on 2nd, 3 even 3rd string RB. A Zips offense at full strength this year are top in the MAC East hands down. The defense is where the Zips need to figure things out (which for Chuck Amato is an oddity).

The MAC East is going to come down to Zips vs Ohio on November 22nd. Good luck the rest of the season until then, I look forward to the matchup. Good luck next week against BG.

Akron poses no threat at all. What's it been now, 8 straight wins over the Zips? And no luck needed for BG, they're awful this year and they're gonna get beat down bad.

By this logic Ohio barely stands a chance against Bowling Green because of this uglyness:
2015-11-04 Bowling Green 62 vs Ohio 24
2014-10-11 Bowling Green 31 at Ohio 13
2013-11-12 Bowling Green 49 vs Ohio 0
2012-11-07 Bowling Green 26 at Ohio 14

OUr advantage against Akron is that Ohio is at home. Other than that Akron has probably looked better so far.

We have had OUr best two receivers miss time. OUr top 5 running backs were all out last week forcing us to play a safety at RB. Fortunately, it was against Gardner-Webb. We have been somewhat lucky that the starting QB, Greg Windham, has stayed healthy as he has taken a lot of hits.

Why do you keep saying this as a reason that Akron can never beat us again? There was a time when we couldn't beat Miami to save our lives. The thing about streaks is that they always come to an end.

And while the rest of the East might be having their own struggles I hardly think any of them are quaking in their boots at the sight of Ohio's 190 yards of offense yesterday.

Our game against Akron will come down to QB and we have a severe deficiency at that position. I for one think we need to build for the future at QB and let Maxwell grow into it. Windham just can't hit his receivers.

Ohio has several running backs injured itself and hasn't run multiple formations from its backfield without the depth the last two games. When healthy Ohio can put up quite a few points.

I've been thinking that the East can be won with a 5-3 record. Beat everybody else in the division and we should be there. But we can't take anybody lightly. Kent and Fiami lost at home to 1AA schools but still played tough against maybe the best two teams in the division

It's distant at this point. We need to take care of business the next few weeks and get healthy. It is not known how good Akron is going to do in the MAC. If they go 6-1 in MAC play going into the regular season final and we are 4-3 the outcome of the game won't even matter for us. The near term target should be win against BG, EMU and KSU, get healthy and get bowl eligible.

Whoever wins the East is going to be a massive underdog to Toledo and I think that would be if they are lucky enough to face Toledo. Central Michigan went to Stillwater and beat Oklahoma State who I think has a pretty good chance to end the year ranked anyway. Western Michigan went to Mount Pleasant and just obliterated CMU. It was total domination. WMU also beat a Northwestern team that won 10 games last year and beat ranked Iowa yesterday. WMU crushed another B1G team in Illinois and put a pretty good beat down on the Georgia Southern team that might be the favorite to win the SunBelt. When WMU did play a really bad team they put 70 on NC Central. If these guys stay healthy I think that Toledo is the only team with a snowball's chance to beat them.

I think that we are competing to be a sacrificial lamb on National TV. I know "On any given Saturday..." but that's more of a reason to worry about Kent St, Buffalo, BGSU, and EMU that it is to have much hope against Toledo and WMU. If Ohio want's to win the MAC is needs to get A LOT better between now and Thanksgiving.

Win against BG, EMU and Kent the next 3 weeks and Ohio is 4-0 in MAC play. Lose the next three against Toledo, Buffalo and CMU and its 4-3 going into the Akron game. Akron enters that game 5-2 or less then Ohio could take the East by virtue of winning that game. Ohio goes 6-1 with only a loss to Toledo then it might have the east wrapped up prior to the Akron game.

Looking at the schedule, I think Ohio will beat EMU, and that will be the only win by an East team over a West team in the regular season this year. That means that 5-3 would certainly win the East, and 4-4 might win it.

Indeed, the winner of the East will most likely face a nationally ranked 12-0 WMU team, and the East champion will be doomed. But then again, Buffalo beat a nationally ranked 12-0 West champion a few years ago, so in a one game season, you just don't know.

Ohio needs to win one game at a time, and just keep getting better. Next up is BG.

As far as who would be favored to win right now I think OUr game against EMU is the only one where an East team would clearly be favored right now. The Akron/BSU game would be close to pick 'em if it were played this week.

Really, you can almost bank on Akron losing to Toledo and WMU. They have BSU at home and might be a small favorite in that one. We go to Mount Pleasant and will be an underdog but not so much that we couldn't win and have EMU at home and should be a favorite but not so much that we couldn't lose. There is a really good chance that the crossover games won't matter as Akron and Ohio will probably be within a game of each other in the MAC standings. The goal has to be to go 5-0 in the MAC East. The crossover games are of lesser importance.

I totally agree with what you wrote here, and particularly this part. Let's say Ohio does go 1-2 against the West, and everyone else goes 0-3. That doesn't help if Ohio loses to Akron, and Akron goes 5-0 in the East because Ohio loses the tiebreaker anyway. There are scenarios where Ohio could lose to Akron and still win the East, but you've got to go for 5-0 in the East.
