Usually defense wins championships. Both of his Assistant Head Coaches are from the defensive side. Amato & Stroud. Five years of recruiting transfers for the quick turn around. Transfers, nineteen on the two deep, from Ohio State, Nebraska, Boston College, Missouri, Pitt, Iowa, Miami (Fla.), Butler, Iowa Western, etc. Five years and 24-37. Five years, 4 losing seasons. Akron needs Monroe's help. He keeps telling us this coaching of football is so easy. We need to loan Monroe to Akron for just a while. It would be good for MAC football.

2012 – Akron (1-11 record)
2013 – Akron (5-7 record)
2014 – Akron (5-7 record)
2015 – Akron (8-5 record)
2016 - Akron (5-7 record)
Akron Record: 24-37

What in world does this mean?!?

What does Monroe have to do with Akron football?

Step away from the message board and go enjoy some turkey.

This makes less sense than your Albin is better than Texas OC musings

You have to wonder about Bowden and his methodology of building a winner. He relies heavily on transfers which you would think after 5-6 years wouldn't be necessary. Most everybody was thinking that the program was heading upward after last year. New stadium hasn't seemed to help them much. Coaches from big name schools don't have to be successful. I just wonder what our fan base would be thinking if Bowdens record was mirrored at Ohio when Frank came here.

I believe that that was exactly bcat2's point.

My guess is, bcat2 would be spewing his same stuff.

Staunch support for the super effort. Winning doesn't matter that much, as long as they're giving their best. Super proud of the boys and these great coaches!

Akron's never won more than 8 games in the history of its program and 8 was accomplished only once as an FBS school. The facilities are some of the MAC's best but there is too much competition for players and students for that matter for that mediocre school to handle.

You can laugh at Akron.

In fact, you should.

But Akron, Buffalo, Miami, and Bowling Green have all won MAC Championships since 2005. And Kent took NIU to overtime of the MAC title game (at a time when both were ranked).

Ohio in that time frame?

The MAC title is far and away the main goal.

Yes, I'd rather win it once interspersed with down seasons than not win it all.

As bshot44 says, you are entitled to your opinion. ;-)

Solich was a good hire for where Ohio and the MAC was back in 2005. He's won 4 MAC East championships. I've felt ever since the IPF was built things were in order to upgrade the coaching staff as it was clear by 2013 the program had plateaued. But with what he's done this year with an East title and with an outgoing president he's in position to be here a couple more years. 88 wins and needs 12 more to hit 100 at a school. I don't see the point of whining about it every day about the next 2 years or so until the next coach arrives but I guess Monroe does. It's fact is Solich will eventually retire and our facilities will be upgrading so I guess I don't understand the concern. Take a multi-year view and where things are heading.

It is absolutely pathetic that Akron is lucky to draw 5,000 per game in their on-campus stadium. It is very sad. They used to play in the Rubber Bowl (off campus) and draw more. The university is financially unstable and they should have dropped football long ago, before building that stadium. They thought it would draw students and it has not. It is a bad situation and now there is no turning back. A giant sucking sound of money is draining the university and will continue to do so for years to come. There is no end in sight in Zippy land.

I would not trade Akron's performance over the last 10 years with Ohio's performance over the last 10 years.

I suppose on paper to people from the Akron area, the fact that Akron built a brand news stadium several years ago along with many other campus buildings might make sense. They may even think that having a Bowden as coach in the town of Lebron would resonate with some kids. However, while that might draw some attention in Northeast Ohio, I doubt that would lure many prospective students outside the area, let alone outside the state to come. The epic fail of these types of gimmicks in higher education never ceases to amaze me.
