With so many of the Solich -hired coaches either retired or moving on, it’s safe to say that a new era has begun at Ohio. What started with Burrow retiring a few years back, then Dixon and now Albin taking many of the old guard with him, it will be interesting to see where we go from here. No doubt the foundation has been well laid by the old regime, but we’re on to a new direction in the future. I’m relatively sure than the values will pretty much remain the same as they have been relatively successful.

Anyone seeing significant/ major changes going forward ?

Of the six coaches announced for 2025, half of them coached under Solich.

Not many in top positions there, so you’re saying that 3 out of how many are going to prevent change?

Definitely gonna be a new era. One major obstacle is the schedule. Rutgers, West Virginia, Ohio State… It probably isn’t gonna start out pretty unless this schedule changes. Let’s hope we don’t have too many injuries or losses going into Mac play.

Games coached under Solich:
Albin taking:
Metz: 3
Faanes: 3
Rudolph: 16
Total: 22

Staying:
D Smith: 42
Isphording:121
Scott: 29
Total: 192

So our assistants have 9x more time under Solich but yeah they are so much more experienced in the Solich way.

You missed some major points, how many games did Solich, Albin, Burrow and Dixon coach? It’s not just the games coached either, it’s number of people we’re left with and who directed the program before the changes.
You may want to say that we haven’t changed direction with all the changes -we are somehow still in the Solich era- but I disagree. We shall see going forward.

Hire Frank back as an OL coach. He can impress new OL recruits by winning the team dumbell bench competition.

There will always be change, and change is necessary to avoid stagnation. The key is to not lose the culture of winning, not to avoid change.

I wonder how many staffs in the nation have three assistants currently on staff from two head coaches prior? One? How many teams lose their head coach but keep both play-calling coordinators? One? End of an era or remarkable consistency?

Remarkable consistency but we took a few steps forward with some creative minds the last several years. Love what Hauser and Smith have the chance to do.

Actually, we’ve been better the last few years with new guys in place.

That is what I tend to think. The last 3 seasons 10+ wins.

I don't really understand this argument. Seems to me that what we have is steady improvement based on the program that Solich rebuilt. In other words, we've seen a steady evolution based on Solich principles, not a revolutionary change from one era to the next. That was not the case here previously, where we had a distinct Bryant Era, PaPa L Era, Burke Era, Grobe Era, and Knorr Era.

I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Kappes had been selected as the permanent HC, after his rather disastrous interim year. He would have continued an evolution of Hess Era, and retained many of the same assistant coaches. I think he would have turned the program back in a positive direction if he'd been given the chance. One of those historical "ifs" that we'll never actually know the answer to.
