Coaching changes aside, do we know where we land with Navarro for next season?

2020 - UCF (COVID)
2021 - UCF 5 games
2022 - OU 2 games
2023 - OU 6 games
2024 - OU 2nd Team ALL-MAC

Technically, I don't believe he ever redshirted and could take his 4th year at OU? Can you retroactively claim a redshirt for that 2022 year?

I'm not sure I've ever heard him explicitly asked or anyone ever bring it up.

Stating the obvious, but that would be a TREMENDOUS help easing in a new coach, especially if it's Brian who just steps up into the role. Could also make the job more attractive to someone outside the program if they have a little runway before having to bring in their own guys.

If I am remembering correctly, wasn't 2022 the year he injured his shoulder against Penn State? If so, I believe he could take a medical or regular redshirt for that year. Also, after 2022, he has been listed as a graduate student on the official roster and never made mention of a redshirt. I would guess he has the extra year if he wants to use it, whether that is at OU or elsewhere

You are listed as a graduate student if you have a undergrad degree. You can’t list yourself as a redshirt junior if you are not actually a junior, even though that signals eligibility better.

He wiped out his elbow at Iowa State in 2022, I believe.

This would be massive, I did not have it on my radar I assumed all along he was done.

I totally thought he was done because he was listed as a Graduate. I suppose the reasoning a couple posts above explains why that is not the case.

With the Albin departure and our good old friend Mr. Transfer Portal opening up today... keeping expectations in check.

He definitely has another year to play. The issue of whether it will be in Athens or not is, of course, going to be influenced by how all of the coaching questions are answered in the days ahead (as will be the case for many other players).

Yeah I hope he's our QB1 but I wouldn't expect it.

Somebody will look for Rourke Part Deux.

Wasn't sure about the dates, hoping Julie makes an announcement soon so we're not leaving kids in the lurch. Sounds like she wants to have a wide search though.

Curious how many kids follow him to Charlotte? In all honesty, I can't imagine it's a ton. It's been said a billion times, but what an uphill battle. I wouldn't want to spend my remaining year there trying to rebuild.

I think we're in a better spot having just won the championship, and perhaps a lack of success from 98% of the kids who left in the portal last season helps as well. Especially if you're Navarro - who is not a great, but serviceable passer - was able to find his legs and find success with Brian's offense.

He's a dramatically different situation than Rourke, who has been a polished passer for years.

Assuming that Parker Navarro does has another year of eligibility, he's best suited to stay at Ohio. He tried playing at UCF and barely saw the field.

He was a backup here until Rourke left and was our 3rd stringer at times. He's a really solid athlete and has developed into a better passer than what we all believed he could be but he still lacks what P4 schools are looking for. His best skillset is running and that would be tougher playing in a power conference.

Could he follow Albin to Charlotte? That's possible but does he want to finish his career on a losing a team just to say he played in the American Conference again? Maybe but that doesn't seem appealing.

Staying at Ohio gives him a chance to finish his legacy at OU and go after another MAC Championship while continuing to start for a solid G5 program. Nothing is guaranteed if he leaves. That being said, I wouldn't blame him for transferring up if given the opportunity.

I personally give Navarro about a 5% chance of returning. He got the ring and now will solely be in bag securing mode. He will seek to become the highest paid player at Charlotte.

Navarro very recently in an interview was asked about his experience transferring and his answer was basically that it took a lot for him to leave UCF and he would encourage other players to think very long about actually entering the portal. Obviously the coaching situation could change that, but his answer made me think he believes too many players hit the portal.

Anyone know if Navarro is closer to either Albin or Smith? In a lot of cases the players are often more tight with their coordinator than the head coach. Assuming Smith is as well liked as it seems he is, I would think lots of players are waiting to see if he gets the gig and if not will hit the portal.

Or maybe they all think he is a dirtbag and are rooting against it...Who knows.

Things have changed, A LOT, since that quote. This is probably the first time in his career that he has leverage and a head coach willing to bust out the check book. I'm sure he'll think long and hard... over the $$$ amount Albin is going to throw at him.

Charlotte was 5-7 this year, not 0-12. Given what Albin did in the portal for Ohio this year, it doesn't take a lot of imagination to picture a winning season for Charlotte next year.

Albin was trying to bring in other quarterbacks from the portal last year - most notably Gunner Gundy and a kid who had some playing experience at Vanderbilt. How highly does he think of Parker exactly? Did Parker find that offensive after the bowl performance last year?

The AAC is a tougher conference and has a higher talent level than the MAC. It won't be as easy for Albin to deal with a large amount of turnaround at Charlotte as it was for him this year at Ohio coming off back-to-back 10 win seasons in one of the weakest conferences in the FBS.

He'll need to bring in higher level recruits. He went 3-9 his first season at Ohio and expect him to have similar struggles early on at Charlotte.

I think Albin is a great head coach but I'm not expecting him to have instant success. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong.

Your coaches better be trying to get better every year through recruiting and transfers.

I agree, but how does that make you feel as the heir apparent already on the roster?

This topic is total speculation though. Who knows how his relationship was with Albin compared to other coaches? Who knows if this past weekend’s events changed that? We’ll never know unless somebody says something in public or Parker is in Charlotte next year.

It’s a business, that was a blanket statement. As a coach you either recuriting the “next” or the “replacement”. Coaches are CEO’s, they always looking for better. To win more and make more.

Gunner Gundy? Who the heck is that? He's not on Vandy's roster.

Ummm…yeah….he was a freshman way back then! If you haven’t noticed, there aren’t exactly a lot of non-5-star freshmen QB’s eating up gobs of playing time in the FBS. The fact that he saw the field as a Covid true actually says a lot. He actually played in more games for UCF than Dillon Gabriel did that season (albeit in different roles). UCF also was in the midst of their runs then. He’d be foolish to at least not explore his options out there. I don’t see the NFL in his future, so next year might be his last chance to cash in (literally) on an opportunity at some nice bank. Six figures at another school would go a helluva lot further than a piddly MAC football award. He’s already been crowed a champion. He should at least see what his options are. We’re in the era of professional football whether we like it or not. He might have the chance to make money next year he won’t make by staying. I’m not saying he should go, I’m saying I hope he’s at least exploring all his options and makes the decision best for him not matter what we all think he should do.

At the bare minimum, he's going to ask for a raise from Ohio to even consider coming back. That's just common sense imo.
