That's just a different value system than Ohio has. Ohio wants to be good every year, and then if the stars align, put together a great run with multiple championships. They don't want a revolving door of coaches, suffering through a terrible 1-11 season in hopes of getting one season with College Gameday three years later.

In my opinion Ohio's approach is way better for the student-athletes, it's not close. The revolving door approach might be more fun for some fans.

Think about what you wrote, please.

I think we'd all agree that no one wants (or can afford!) revolving door at OHIO FOOTBALL.

But the 'value system Ohio has' has not put together multiple championships. In fact, in 12 years it has proven to not be able to bring down a single championship.

So, is there sensible reason to believe that it will bring down a MACC in year 13 or 14 or 15, etc?

I think Maxwell has huge upside. Needs more PT to develop confidence but I think he has the physical tools.

Difficult to replace Blair Brown and Basham.

If next years team has the attitude we could win it all.

This is where I'm at. I have no expectations for next year yet, because everything depends on (1) whether our QBs develop in the offseason, and (2) whether we can reload in the front 7 on D.

I hope Hagan is a captain next year. I love his play, and if he brings a leadership attitude into the locker room and inspires his teammates to play the same way, the defense will make a lot of opposing teams hurt.

Here's a question for BA'ers who have watched closely the development of QBs. How much - or how little - can a QB improve accuracy?

We know a baseball pitcher or a basketball player can improve accuracy, but their targets - a catcher's mitt or basket - are stationary. A football receiver isn't. To me - and I might be dead wrong - it seems that a QB either has an innate mastery of moving spatial relationships or not.

Yes, beyond a doubt. Ohio was two plays away from a MACC last night. Obviously, it's possible for them to pull one of those out if they can just be a little bit better.

I think the answer is yes. Not because I think he'll dramatically improve mechanics, but I suspect much of his problem is nerves--not mechanics. I don't think he handled the pressure well last night. It appeared to rattle him, and that impacted his accuracy. I predict he'll settle down, but then again, that's based on nothing. Just speculation from 400 miles away and an ESPN filter.

This "if the stars align" crap is the exact reason why Ohio won't get over the hump. Instead of waiting for "the stars to align" the program needs to create it's own magic. Stop waiting for something to happen and MAKE it happen.

I agree with that (the last part about making things happen), and I don't think anybody's waiting. I'm sure the coaches and players want to win at least as much as the fans want them to. To have the success that Ohio's had, everyone has to be pretty aggressive about making things happen.

But when you come up a play or two short of a championship, that doesn't mean you need to make big changes. If you come that close, probably you're doing a lot of things right already.

Hey, when it was really bad for four years, would that be admitted and the need for change recognized?

Of course not, because the bottom line is no change no matter what.


I changed when Solich and staff proved mediocre as a peak. You SFB never will.

We'll be here another how many years this way, with no MACC and seasons of too many losses and you SFB being very satisfied with it?!


Whenever it is that we hire a new coach, will you be happy if we hire a guy who can never MACC and who never has less than four losses a season?

First, I challenge the we were really bad for four years. We were certainly in a slump, I'll grant you that. However, it appears that Frank did make the changes necessary to get us out of the slump. He changed the defensive system. He recruited for that system. He did other things that I'm not knowledgeable enough to see. Bottom line, we got better. The trajectory is up not down, or even sideways. We are not there yet, but the future looks bright. There are many reasons for the slump, some of which you refuse to recognize. Even the best MLB hitters get in extended slumps sometimes. If they are really good, they eventually pull out of the slump. I would think you'd be happy to see the progress, rather than lamenting that we had a slump for a few years after we've pulled out of the slump. But, you're a guy who won't let new facts change your opinion. You just find the most negative new fact that you can, and it becomes your new mantra. OK, NO SEASON WITH LESS THAN 4 LOSSES UNDER FRANK. FIRE THE DUDE! Feel better, now? ;-)

I have to say, I've never been able to better deal with the loss than I did Friday Night. Either I have become numb to the tough losses or I was encouraged by what I saw. Maybe a little of both.

I had a great time Friday despite the goofy chest pumping WMU fans who seemed to forget they are not a dynasty. I barely made it in the front door of my hotel after a 4+ hour drive and was greeted by 5-6 WMU consoling me already before the game was played. A$$ clown city.

Going to be hard to pull for them given my encounters.

I like the nucleus we have back. It will not be easy to replace 2 rush DE's but we have some talent at LB and the DB's will be better. I still think Maxwell is going to make it happen. OL needs to improve but we may have the best stable of RB's next year in the MAC with AJ back. I can't say enough about Zervos and Farkas.

Less than happy about the Bowl Game location. Love the City of Mobile. Don't like trying to get there and not a big fan of the stadium at all.

Playing yet another Sun Belt Team is getting old.

Hope to make it but it will be tough.
