Apparently, there are new rules on this board.

First, know that, apparently, these rules only apply if a post is directed at someone who has an unacceptable viewpoint.

Apparently, these rules allow for disregard of rational discourse or disregard of disregarding posts which one doesn't like. Instead, apparently, one can curse at another poster at least once (though I think that we've seen the same person do the same at least twice).

The new rule doesn't bother me that much as I'm amused by those who can't disregard what they don't like or argue back at it with equal vigor.

But it's sad to see here an apparent double standard with sanctions against those who don't post acceptable opinions but, apparently, not against those who go over the line toward those whose opinions are not acceptable.

To the administrators, please do not ban Monroe. His comments add spice to the board. He gets barraged with insults, so he should be given a longer leach. I bet even the people that disagree with him believe that he adds spice to the board as well and they look forward to combatting him. There are some very sensitive people on the board, I have tried to make peace after being warned, but the same posters still come for me. My views have changed on FS, but Albin needs help or needs to go. So while I am not all in with Monroe's view, there is some truth to what he says. God bless you all.

I could never compete with that kid. He's the best!

I used 'apparently' a lot as there's been no official change in the rules that I've seen but I guess now you are allowed such as telling someone to 'shut the F up.'

Since the moderators haven't responded in this thread, are we all free to let it fly that way?

Or has the poster who flew that one at me been warned? And, if so, why was there a private warning versus a public post?

Has that post been removed? Are we all free to really start letting it fly?

After reading Monroe's thoughts and opinions over the years, it's obvious he cares more about Ohio University than most people on this board . He just happens to have higher standards than 90% of BA's. Those who said we played great Friday night are the same people that are happy with finishing 8-5 or most likely 8-6 this year and actually think we will be back in the MACC again next year. It would be ridiculous for the moderators censor his opinions just because they don't agree with him.

A regular poster told him to shut the "f" up and spelled it out. It has since been deleted.

I'm not sure I can agree with this. By what measurement are you using to determine that Monroe cares more about OHIO? As far as I can tell, he doesn't attend any games, home or away. By that measurement, he's behind thousands and thousands of people who at least support their team in person. Even the most casual fan will make it to at least one game. I don't see any buildings, rooms, etc. named after him (if it exists, please let me know). So, I'm not challenging that he is one of the thousands of people who love OU but you're saying he cares more? Um, no.

Monroe has posted the same message thousands and thousands of times. On many forums/boards he would be considered a troll and ignored. However, not here. I think he likes being the center of attention in life and this is one of the ways he's found that he can insert himself in a controversial way to garner attention. He's the only poster I've seen who responds to his own posts when no one else will, to bump it up and get the attention he was hoping for in the first place.

And those that don't think that Ohio will be back in the MAC Championship next will be the first to say that Ohio accomplished nothing if they get there.

No, this team did not accomplish every one of their goals, but they did accomplish many of them. They played well at times, and not so well at other times. Friday night was one of the times they played well, but even that wasn't quite enough to get the win over a nationally ranked and very good WMU team. WMU's average victory over other MAC foes was 27 points, but they were only 37 yards away from losing to Ohio.

Crapping up nearly every thread on the football side with the same opinion re: the MAC title has ruined this side of the board. I certainly don't think any other forum I've ever frequented would put up with this as long as BA has. I didn't visit here much over the last couple of years but when I started lurking again my one reaction was, "what happened to these people?"

In summary, it's not what he says (everyone wants a MAC title and he's certainly within his rights to feel that's the only barometer of success), it's how he says it (basically copy-pasting the same thing in nearly every FB thread, regardless of topic, and waving away every opinion that doesn't end in "WITHOUT A MAC TITLE IT MEANS NOTHING, FIRE FRANK").

Kent and Akron will get better next year and weprobably won't face their third string QB. We better get a lot better throwing the ball and defending the pass or we are in for a long, long year.

I agree with this. If there is a new rule, it should be a rule against thread hijacking. I'm not sure how to write it, nor how to enforce it, but allowing every thread to be hijacked has ruined this forum. No one would object to posters who have in particular opinion, so long as they limit it to on-topic threads. What most people do object to, is having every thread become the same negative drivel.

Again, I'm not sure how to formulate such a rule or write it, but I'm sure that the forum is dying from lack of it.

Yeah, let's censor if we don't like the opinions. And let's never hold Solich and staff responsible for winning a MAC.

Then, let's let other posters put up libelous posts based on totally false assumptions and not do anything about it.

It's not about censoring. It's about maintaining some sense of reasonable discourse. I'm 100% for creating a thread that is #nomacccfor12yearsnothingelsematters vs. Everything is sunshine and lollipops. Monroe and BCat2 can have a grand old time in there going back and forth every day. It will be glorious and I might even click on it occasionally for a reminder of what mental illness looks like. The folks who would like to discuss literally anything else can click on a topic of any other subject and read about that without having the discussion ruined with another trip down the rabbit hole.

I agree with what L.C. said, this constant diversion from the topic in every thread is ruining this forum. It's time to do something about it. I'm convinced this nonsense discourages participation from lurkers and has driven away a lot of former users which is a form of censorship in itself.

I can confirm that I've had others tell me exactly that -- they no longer participate or have never ventured beyond lurking because of Monroe's constant drivel. These are not necessarily all people who Monroe would call the ToleratingMediocrityBunch, but they are turned off by the constant carping and thread hijacking they witness. They just don't want to get embroiled in it. Perhaps, if we are checking sanity, that makes them more sane than those of us who are still here. You know what they say about battered wives? After awhile they start to enjoy it and think that it's normal. Are us BAers suffering from battered wife syndrome? We're starting to enjoy the abuse? Of course, the other thing that happens with battered wife syndrome is that the wife finally comes to the realization that she is being abused and then all hell breaks loose. It's actually a defense in spousal murder cases.
