The pieces are in place for next year. If Maxwell progresses or Keszei impresses our running backs (all 4 return) can do the dirty work. Cope, Ball and Belack are going to be a tough trio and Mangen is back along with 3 linemen. Defensively we return 3 key linemen and 2 linebackers with Croutch ready to step in. Our defensive backfield will actually be a strength with Hagan leading the way and Zervos and Farkas are both weapons already as freshmen. Let's get it done!

I love sports...there is always next year.

But, as usual I can assure you we will have one or two weak positions, we'll end up 7-5 or 8-4, come in 2nd in the East and go to a bowl of some kind. It will be the kind of football we have become accustomed to!

So Casper. Of Western and Ohio, which has the best chance of returning to the MACC game?

Easy answer...WMU. PJ has signed on average 10 or more 3-star guys the last four years. They are loaded and will get another hungry young coach who has enthusiasm and the desire to continue their winning ways. Potentially, they could be like NIU. In the East Miami will be much better and it will be a dog fight. I wouldn't say either is a lock but I'd rather be in their shoes.

And remember you have Toledo and EMU who are getting better along with CMU. We may win the East again but without MUCH BETTER QB play we will struggle.

Got it. We will revisit this later. They lose seniors and likely a coach, like BG did this year.

Bcat2...I don't like it that is just how I see it. You know the issues I have with recruiting. I love how our players played tonight. I am just convinced we like undersized, slower hard working kids we can help develop and coach up. I just don't think it ever leaves us with enuff BETTER players to win the MACC. Tonight was a prime example. We came close but WMU just had MORE BETTER personnel than us. That is why they won. And, I think they will have a bunch of guys coming back given the PJ recruiting of the last 4 years.

WMU is the talk of the country. They got Gameday and will play on January 1st. Do you think anyone in Kalamazoo cares about the 2017 MAC title game right now? I'd trade three 3-9 seasons for one 13-0 season. Winning 57.5% of our games each and every year doesn't make me piss my pants with excitement. In the past 12 years, I've watched BG, NIU, Ball St, and WMU have magical runs. Our big highlight season was a Potato Bowl win.

I hope Someine beats Maxwell for the QB spot next year.. Also after the MACC I'm not convinced any of these RB's can cut it. Let's hope for AJ or the Pick Cent kid as the starter next season.

Good point about Miami. Right now I'd at least make them co-favorites for the East, if not outright favorites.

And for whatever crazy reason, not only does Ohio seem snakebite with injuries, they are slaughtered with injuries in one or two key positions. Ohio must stay healthy to have any chance of winning the MACC.

Western Did not fear Ohio's passing. They came in planning to stop the run. That is why the receivers were more successful. Don't blame the backs. Old lineman here. Line of scrimmage was a war zone.

I like Brown and Irons. AJ is the star, but those two are capable. Tough to get rushing yards when Western, like Akron did, rushes at least six defenders in the box on run plays and dares us to beat them through the air. We need better quarterback play next year.

Book us for 5 MAC wins and 2-2 at worst non conf with schedule. (Should be 4-0)

We say it every season... But show me one with less than 4 losses.

Oh. That's right. It's never happened under Solich.

I'd even put BG back towards the top of the East with the way they played at the end of the year and with what they have coming back.

What magical runs did BG and Ball State have? They haven't been to any bowls better than Ohio has been to in the last 12 years. NIU had a magical run at the Orange Bowl and now WMU has a shot at Cotton. Both very cool and exciting.

It's what we should aspire to.

But don't play this out like it happens all the time and Ohio is the only team left out. Up until this point, every MAC team outside of NIU's dream season had a highlight of a Potato/GMAC/Go Daddy/Little Caesers/Beef O Brady bowl.

It's how the MAC works.

Can Maxwell improve leaps and bounds this offseason both physically with his arm and in running this offense? I really do see some raw talent in him (although maybe not Roethlisberger esque as someone had mentioned before). I hate to place so much on one guy, but unless we pull in a quality juco QB recruit I don't see anyone else who's ready.

That's just a different value system than Ohio has. Ohio wants to be good every year, and then if the stars align, put together a great run with multiple championships. They don't want a revolving door of coaches, suffering through a terrible 1-11 season in hopes of getting one season with College Gameday three years later.

In my opinion Ohio's approach is way better for the student-athletes, it's not close. The revolving door approach might be more fun for some fans.

This ultra-conservative staff will never win a MAC title. How do I know this?

Get em, bcat2. Get that discussion about who'll be better next year between us and WMU. We all care so much about that.

When you have nothing to lose and have a chance for a MONSTER upset but

1) you run it instead of passing on 3rd and 14 from your own 10 on your 2nd last drive of the first half...you give up by running it instead of passing, instead of taking a legit stab at getting a first down, and

2) down 23-7 when you get the ball back at your own 25 with 36 seconds to go on your last drive of the first half and you run it to run out the clock instead of passing, instead of trying to score...then you are ultra-conservative, fear of a turnover Solich...

and you'll never win a MACC.

I like Frank Solich. I really do. From all that I can see he's a straight-shooter, he's a really good guy, and he really cares.

But I want a MAC title. Winning is the prime reason a coach is hired.

Base-line requirements re clean program, academic progress etc are not, by themselves, enough.
