No MAC title for Ohio since 1968? No win ever for Ohio over a Top 25 team? How about achieving both when Ohio beats Western Michigan in the MAC Championship?? I can feel it coming fellas! Sit back and enjoy as it unfolds.

I hope so. The key to advancing the program's revenue streams is to pick up MACCs. A MACC justifies increased ticket prices and legitimizes greater marketing deals. That is Boise State was able to do, win the conference every year.

We are capable of winning out to the MACC if we play up to our potential.

We have no obvious weaknesses and a great mix of 5th year guys and lots of very gifted younger players.

Yeah, no obvious weaknesses.

Ohio is 102nd in the country in fewest total penalty yards. Up from 119th last year!

Ohio is 82nd in the country in 3rd down percentage.

Ohio is 79th in total offensive efficiency and 78th in defensive efficiency, both of which take into account scoring plays versus total plays and also the competition you play.

Ohio is tied for 73rd in red zone offense and 93rd in red zone defense.

Ohio is 84th in pass efficiency defense.

And you're right, I don't think top level recruits want to play in Athens. The guys Ohio has are great players and I appreciate their efforts, but they weren't top level recruits. Lets be realistic here, OHIO's opponents who we have beaten are a combined 5-18.

Of those 5 wins, exactly zero are against FBS(play-off eligible teams).

KU beat RI
GW beat 3 FCS teams
BG beat North Dakota

I'm happy with sitting at 4-2, but let us keep a little perspective in those 4 wins. Not to mention, none of those 4 wins were convincing performances.

That being said, keep working and keep getting better.

The first half of several games were very good, and give a hint of how good this team can be. They need to get more consistent, and continue to improve.

I thought a lot of people got ahead of themselves the year of the infamous Miami/late season collapse, and at the point of mass delirium on this board we were ranked and undefeated. At least that made some sense. This team has shown absolutely no sign that it can beat Western. Sure, we can easily slither into the MACC game based on the sheer ineptitude of the East (though we have yet to even show we're better than Akron or EMU), but I don't see a basis for this level of optimism.

Sagarin has our schedule to date at number 148. Only 1 FBS team -Tulsa is lower at 149. By the way, Eastern is at 135. We haven't proven anything yet, except maybe that we can hang with a pretty good team-Tennessee-for whatever reason. Texas State more than makes up for that game, in my opinion-a game we absolutely should not have lost. Still trying to figure out that one. We will probably know a lot more about this team by Saturday night. But who knows?

WOW!!!!! Based on the above Ohio is terrible. Thank you for the complete presentation of Ohio's statistical rankings. Honestly, I would have thought there would have been some better team/individual rankings. How can you say Ohio is even a "good team?"

About the recruits, I believe that over the years coach Solich, having worked with all kinds, has decided he and his staff need to determine for themselves who is "top level." I believe the first thing they do when looking at a recruit is to sh@# can ratings from any service and then check the young man out thoroughly to see if he is a person they wish to spend four/five years coaching. Earlier it was mentioned they would prefer a late bloomer with more upside. Ohio has done well with late signees without a lot of stars. Frankly I am damned glad to have followed, Carpenter, Laseak, Patterson, Carrie, Crutch, Sayles, A.J., Poling, the Moores, etc..

I hope it is only the fanbase and not the team who has lost sight of the importance of beating Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

Some great points made here...especially about the schedule. Atrocious schedule outside of Tennessee. And no dominating start-to-finish win.

Not sure what people see that makes them think Ohio can win at Toledo let alone CMU. Beating WMU is just laughable.

Ohio would be 3 TD underdog vs Broncos

Just flip them or Toledo on TV and you'll see how much better they are then Ohio. Don't have to be a football wizard to see that.

I've said it before...Ohio is just "good" enough to win sad, sad MAC East. But unless the switch flips between now and November...I see a 6-2 start followed by 2-3 ending (loss in MACC)....and another 8-5 bowl season....with 8 wins vs teams that'll have around 7 or 8 FBS wins....and most of those coming vs each other. Miami, UB, Kansas, Tx State, Kent & BG might be 6 of the worst 10-15 teams in the country.

I hope I'm wrong...but that's my stance on Oct 13.

The reason for the optimism is the excellent first halves against Kansas, Gardner-Webb, and BG, plus the game against Tennessee. That is offset by weak second half performances and the loss to Texas State.

Which is the team we will see down the stretch? If it's the bad, the team will disappoint us. If it's the average, they might muddle through to an East championship, then get blown out in the MAC. If they can continue to improve, and play to their ability, by the end of the season they could be to a point where they are competitive with WMU or Toledo.

I am enjoying watching this team, and I believe they will continue to improve. I like their work ethic and heart.

That's why they play the games! You can quote statistics and have fatal instinct like a lemming regarding our fortunes on the gridiron, but our boys will lace them up and give it their best. 4-2 looks pretty good to me.

And what is anyone's point about not getting "elite athletes" to come to Athens? We don't play in that arena. Period. It's not a fault, it's just the way it is.

We scored 6 points in the first half against Texas State so that half was not too good either.

Yes, correct. However, don't forget that Texas State has since proven that they are MUCH better than we originally thought they were going into that game.

Fact. 5 of Ohio's opponents reside in the bottom 15 in the country. Four of which they've already played (UB still to come). Kent is in bottom 22.

So hard to tell just how good this team is when competition (outside of Tennessee) has been atrocious.

If you're going to say TxSt debacle was flukey....then you have to question whether Tennessee performance was flukey?

Very curious if there are any big improvements vs EMU & Kent before they go to Toledo for serious test.

After watching practices this week, I can tell anyone who is interested that our kids are ready to go Saturday. Practice has been fast paced and spirited. Looks good to see a couple of our injured players out there and near full speed. As we get key players healthy, the playbook is much closer to complete. Not sure if we will beat Eastern, but we will be focused and ready to play.

Cmon Bcat, no one is saying that we are terrible. Right now, we're a "decent" team, with potential to be a good team. I think everyone sees that and is hopeful that we get better, finish strong and have a great season. I think we can. The jury is still out. We haven't beaten anyone yet. I know we want to boost up BG because of the teams they've had in recent years, but they are not even a shadow of those recent teams.

I know you like to be the anti-Monroe but the above stats are just responding to the idea that we are a team without any weaknesses. We clearly have weaknesses in overall secondary play and offensive/red zone efficiency and defensive red zone efficiency. yes, we can point out the good on special teams and the work of our front 7, but that doesn't make a complete team.
