During Verne Lundquist's goodbye after the Army/Navy game he said his first network game was in 1974 Ohio U (we'll let Verne slide on that) and Kent State. Never knew that.

And he said Nick Saban was an assistant coach in that game for Kent State.

I literally let out a yell/yelp when he said that. Amazing!

One of the best voices ever! Always seemed like a class act.

True story. I got married on a Friday night, September 20, 1974. We stayed at a nearby hotel for the next two nights before going home Sunday to open gifts. We then went to Athens on Monday so I could start my Sr. Yr. at Ohio and my wife could go back to her teaching job in Vinton County. On Saturday, during my "honeymoon", I made my new wife watch Ohio vs. KSU! Did not remember Verne doing the game. I'm pretty sure we won 20-0 though! Brought back some memories!

Also an Ohio connection with Allie LaForce. Very cool.

Uncle Verne is one of the best, right up there with Keith Jackson in my book.

I'll never forget Verne announcing the Georgetown and Tennessee games in the NCAA Tournament. Hopefully we'll get to hear his voice again if the Bobcats make a run.

Man, we're gonna miss him as a broadcaster - one of the best.
