And this Ohio team... bad.
-5 turnovers
-Failure to get 6 and settling for 3
-Ignorant, undisciplined penalty on the biggest drive of the game
-Did I mention 5!!!!! turnovers??
We're supposed to be a running team...yet we can't run the ball? Kudos to Reid for having himself a coming out party tonight. Also, SO to Zervos AKA Legatron for giving this Jr. High offensive team points when they stall at the 30 nearly every other drive.
A lot of the guys on defense played fantastic tonight, and deserved to win this game.
However, the lack of a competent QB, simplistic offensive line mistakes, and once again questionable play-calling has let this team down.

So let's cheer about making a bowl game but not being able to win the damn thing and say "Maybe next year is the year! Frank and Tim will fix it!" I look forward to the criticism I'll get on this post. I literally don't understand why the triple option isnt used in Athens. New Mexico seems to be doing fine, and they were considerably worse than OHIO just a few short years ago.

Let me be the first to start the #FireAlbin and #FireIsphording trends.
Have fun being mediocre and happy about a Dollar General Bowl LOSS

Turnovers were the difference. Ohio played Troy straight up otherwise and still had a chance to win it despite all the giveaways.

The defense played Troy straight up and that's why they had a chance to win tonight. Stop avoiding the simple truth that the offensive unit on this team is inept and incapable of winning the game.

Or ANY game at that

Troy didn't need to outgain us. We gave them the ball 5 TIMES. Heck, they didn't even need to run their fast paced offense to beat us.

I literally don't understand how this regime plateaus at 8 wins a season, and that's acceptable. Programs become great because they have expectations. Texas fired Mack Brown because he couldn't win more than 10 games a season. 10 GAMES! I realize there's going to be that asshole that says "you can't compare Ohio to Texas" but you can certainly start to raise the question as to when this staff will become more consistent at improvement, because I don't see it. Yes, they've done well and OU goes to bowl games. Yes, they are better than they've been in an extremely long time. However, OHIO does not recruit well, they do not win big games, AND they can not win the MACC. For the life of me I can't understand why some of you refuse to have expectations. They are absolutely reachable. Do you truly believe Kalamazoo is more appealing than Athens? Complacency is the enemy of greatness. Step out of your comfort zone and at least think about how much the fans, students, and alumni of this university deserve a MACC.

They do not waste time and move right ahead on facilities. NCAA mandated 30,000 seats and by 1989 expanded to 30,200. Added the IPF with suites in 2003. Put new videoboards into the stadium since Fleck has been there.

This progress concerns me as much as losing Bowl Games. Miami is opening up the wallet and will be spending millions in the near term. WMU does appear to have some top notch facilities.

We have old decaying Peden that we will try and dress up with an academic center or something. Lipstick on a pig.

Question is, does Ohio (and its alumni) have the will and desire to financially upgrade the football infrastructure from top to bottom, from coaching salaries to facilities? I don't see it.

We don't need the commitment from alumni, we can just raise fees.

Miami, according to today's Dispatch, sold out its allotment for Monday's bowl game. Is the giant down in Oxford beginning to wake up?

I agree Mark. The part I don't understand is how raising salaries gets you better results unless you get lucky and hire a better coach. Simply raising salaries of existing staff and expecting better results is a bit foolish don't you think. And by the way, this is in no way a call for anyone to lose their job - I'm just trying to get a handle on the concept of raising salaries.

So someone realized that the canary had been singing for the last 5 months. Why do you thinkI have been hell bent on fundraising on here? We could be a decade behind when this is all said and done.

My general takeaway on this thread and others is, if you want it then get out your damn checkbooks. There's a lot of bark on this board but very little bite. And the post comparing us to Texas is so unbelievably assanine...see previous comment about checkbooks.

OHIO doesn't have the fan base to raise the $$$ needed for real change. I applaud the few who are taking it upon themselves to make change, and I truly hope it works out. If I could hit the mega millions I would be the Boone Pickens of Athens county, but until that happens I fear we are stuck where we are with 8 wins a season. No more, sometimes less. But certainly no more.

Its the chicken and the egg. We don't have the fans because we don't have he wins and we don't have the wins because we don't have the fans. A really good coaching job one year can change everything.

Speaking of finding a way to lose, 10 minutes left with the ball on the 29 with 4th and maybe 1.5 yards to go knowing we are down 8 and must score a TD we kick a shit ass bad angle field goal which as expected we miss. Even if you make it you still have "To Score A Touchdown" later. NFW in a million years would I have tried a bad angle 46 yard field goal. If you can't get the 1.5 yards you aren't going to get a TD later anyway which they didn't.

Wow, what an un-nice think to say.

I may be able to solve he lack of funds problem. Take available money now being used for the coaching staff and spend it on a new staff, perhaps can find a gem in the many, many assistants on staffs across the land who'll take less than ideal salry for the chance to be the head man.

Or, if close the program and put the available funds to academics.

So obvious.

How'd you like our next possession in which we showed no clock urgency at all?
