Monroe, it's not said that much, but it is lurking in the corner of the room. You just mentioned coaches salaries and the value of a players scholarship. Many think that Solich and Phillips make a lot of money, maybe relative to what they make. Scholarship athletes have it made because they would've gladly filled their shoes if they could. So they think it's okay to say anything and these guys should take it, as they are getting the big bucks. It smacks of jealousy and I don't agree with that line of thinking.

We can't baby coaches and players, that is not real. Nobody babied Coach Knorr and Blair Brown. Some of these players will go to the NFL where the ribbing is worst than Ohio University. Coach Solich is a grown man and faced way more adversity at Nebraska. Some high school sites have more criticism than this site. Let's not be ridiculous. Nobody should call players names, but critiquing play is just being real and if you feel a certain way you can question the poster's knowledge. Stop being so sensitive. Constant praise and constant ribbing can be annoying, so I understand being annoyed, but making statutes that are so artificial to our culture don't help. Go to a prominent high school site and see the scrutiny that their players are under.

The previous poster is correct as he mentioned "we can't baby coaches." Many head coaches of the various sports at Ohio University are paid well compared to the people who live and work in the Athens area. However, at times it appears that some posters choose to post only when "something negative" happens to our athletic teams. They rarely comment when something positive occurs. The sad thing is that many posters have probably earned a paycheck from this institution or had family or friends that have made a living by working at Ohio University. I don't suggest that all posters are negative, but a handful seem to make it a priority to "announce to the world" every time something negative occurs.

I can assure you players to not get deterred from this website. Maybe fuel to the fire but never will it sway a decision to go to this university or not. The winning culture (compared to the past) and the upgrades to facilities, uniforms, academics and of course.....campus is the deciding factor. I took 5 visits in 2001; University of Kentucky, University of Arkansas, University of Nebraska, University of Louisville and Ohio University. Those other school's campuses could not even compare to OU. My favorite college football movie at the time was "The Program" with Craig Sheffer as Joe Kane and Omar Epps as Darnell Jefferson. Seeing the college campus at OU reminded me of that movie and I fell in love with OU.

I got a PM from a parent this week, and he said that parents do indeed find and read this forum during the recruiting process. When they see the non-stop negativity and criticism of the coaching staff, it makes them question their decision to come to Ohio. It is not a deciding factor, however, just something that raises questions and concerns.

In the end the recruited players and parents evaluate the coaches themselves, their character, and their approach to developing players. In his case, he and his son decided that the Ohio coaching staff was a plus, and he is now enrolled. They feel that the Ohio staff does an outstanding job of making players into the best that they can be, both on and off the field, and that in addition to player development, there is a focus on getting a quality education, and on developing integrity and building character.

Well, if the parents and recruits are half way intelligent, they'll quickly see that it's the same moron posting the negativity thousands and thousands of times. So, they will hopefully discount it as some guy with an agenda and too much time on his hands.

Since you have a lot of free time, I've always wondered: Since it's become a trendy marketing thing, what % of bacon is applewood-smoked? And What's the big deal about applewood-smoked? Thanks for participating.

I have to think every other program that tried to recruit the kid in question has a fan message board where some of the comments posted are negative.
