He had a point. They grabbed each others' face masks.

Mitchell also had the fumble recovery near the end of regulation that stopped the Browns from going ahead.

true, the offensive player had way more than he had. He saved the gamed with that tackle.

Is Mitchell the best player ever from OU?

No. I say that unequivocally as both a Steeler & Bobcat fan. He's actually quite terrible and has been since arriving in Pittsburgh. He can't tackle or cover anyone. Ask any Steeler fan, his act is growing super tiresome.

All he does is run his mouth and try to hit people as hard as possible. A lot of times this results in dumb, unnecessary penalties.

Don't believe me...just search his name on Twitter during a game.

I know he's been in league for a long time now...but he's a headache to watch.

I'd lean more towards Dave Zastudil even though he's just a punter.

Chip Cox has put a hall of fame career together in Canada. I think Chris Garrett won a Grey Cup too up there. I know it's not NFL...but both have had nice careers there

I don't know much about him, but I think Vince Costello, a linebacker for the Bobcats in the 50s, was the best NFL player to come from OU. He was a starter for 11 of his 12 NFL seasons, mostly with the Browns. Seems to have been one of the best middle linebackers in the NFL during some of that span.

Mitchell has played well, he is an enforcer. If the steeler's were tired of him, they would not pay him 5 million per. He is not a pro bowler, but a solid player.

He is missed here in Carolina - but simply was not worth $5 million a year.

Respectfully.....but vehemently disagree. The Steelers secondary is one of the worst in the NFL. They are trying to get better by getting younger (Artie Burns, Sean Davis)...and thankfully dumped the awful Antwon Blake/Will Allen combo last off-season.

While they've improved a little this year...they were 30th last year and 26th in the league the year before. While that's not all Mitchell's fault....anyone who watches this team can easily see that he is a big part of the problem.

Mitchell has had a very bumpy career in Pittsburgh...

https://bustedcoverage.com/2014/11/18/steelers-safety-mik... /

"...safety Mike Mitchell. During the team’s four-game losing streak, he seemed to regularly show up in close proximity to the Steelers’ penalties and the other teams’ biggest plays, at times acting like an unguided missile and, at others, missing a tackle or being out of position in coverage.

...Unfortunately for Mitchell, his career in Pittsburgh has been marked more often than not by glaring mistakes rather than remarkable plays. He’s served a role comparable to hockey’s enforcer, whether it has been intentional or not, and it has netted him far more than one man’s fair share of personal fouls."

- behindthesteelcurtain.com

He may hit harder than most in the league...but he's constantly head-hunting...and constantly running his mouth even when he gets beat.

Mitchell on display...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EdyuPIJa2c
https://twitter.com/NFL/status/813177147762163713?ref_src...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi6Nbj5Cca0&index=78&list...

You want to know why Mitchell was flagged for the facemask vs. Cleveland (that was a obviously a somewhat bogus call).....it's reputation. He's known as a somewhat dirty player that draws personal foul penalties.

Last season the NFL fined him $8,681 for unnecessary roughness on Antonio Gates, and two months later he was fined another $23,152 for a hit on defenseless Cincinnati tight end Tyler Eifert.

I'm sorry...I love the Bobcats...but it kills me watching Mitchell every week. He drives me crazy

As a Bengals fan, I can say without hesitation that I really dislike him as a player. My bias against the Steelers surely comes into play, but my perceptions echo yours in a way. I feel like he's more concerned about hitting and sneaking in cheap shots than anything else. Although, I also think that's a little part of the Mike Tomlin culture that has been developed in Pittsburgh for the whole team. Having never spoken to, or having met him, it would be unfair to talk about him beyond his play on the field. But that's my slanted opinion from an on the field standpoint.

Seems like Mike Mitchell is a player who in another era would've been great. Even 20 years ago, his skillset would've made him a borderline star.

Finally. He is ranked 12 in the power ratings. He has missed some tackles on explosive plays and reacts late to deep balls.

I just know what I see when I watch games. While he makes plays occasionally, he often is guilty of boneheadedness and bad football. I just don't like him as a player.

For every ball he jars loose with a big hit....he's flagged for something dumb. He misses key tackles...doesn't cause many turnovers. Instead of going for an INT on occasion he's always looking to go Jack Tatum on someone and knock them out.

I just don't like the way he plays and as a Steeler fan it's frustrating to watch him do the same thing over...and over...and over.

Mitchell would be the best modern player, I presume. Looks like he's earned close to $20 million already. Hope he's been smart with it.

But, we've had plenty of great college players that didn't make the NFL or just had a cup of coffee. So maybe we just say he belongs near the top on the list of the greatest?

During Grobe's years we had a defensive back who was quite good. I don't think that he played in the NFL??

Mike Johnson has, I believe, pointed him out a time or two...Mike, can you help me and rate the lad I'm thinking about against all-time OHIO?

Mike Mitchell has been knocking people out before NFL. Try Highlands in Kentucky and OU practices! LOL! I would say he has to cover more passing responsibilities in Pittsburgh's defense. He actually is a better 4-3 safety rather than a 3-4 safety. Mike is a run-support safety first and foremost. He excelled in Carolina's 4-3 zone defense.
