He could change this program, we could conceivably go undefeated if he comes here. Wow, there is a lot to be excited about if we get him. Malik come home and leave a legacy. Please, we need you. The coaches need to do some Keith Sweat begging, lol.

The guy who almost led Notre Dame to a National Championship. A dual threat QB who got injured and lost his job to Deshon Kizer, who may be the First QB taken in next years draft. https://www.landof10.com/wisconsin/notre-dame-malik-zaire...

Here is some of his work.
He has thrown for 816 yards and six touchdowns in his Notre Dame career. Most notably, Zaire completely 31-of-37 (83.7-percent) passes in his two biggest starts against LSU in 2014 and Texas in 2015.

As I said on the "what did I miss" thread.

If he was considering transferring to Wisconsin or North Carolina and now maybe Florida, why would O.U. be in the mix ?

Why on earth would Malik Zaire want to come to Ohio? What does Albin, Isphording, & co. offer that is superior to what his other suitors (Florida, Wisconsin, UNC) can offer?

Style of offense? Sports administration grad program? A chance for a MAC championship?

Extremely unlikely.

The only legitimate reason I can think of is that we are closer to his hometown. But if he really just wanted to be closer to Kettering, UC would be a better pick.

Hey, if this is true, wonderful. I'll be as happy as anyone. But if our coaches are this easily excited about something that is 99.99999999999% likely a joke, we are going nowhere fast.

(Or Zaire told somebody he was thinking about Ohio State, and somewhere between him saying it and the rumor spreading to Bobcat Nation, "Ohio State" was shortened to "Ohio"....)

Pretty sure you're thinking of Everett Golson who almost led ND to a National Title. Zaire has done little.

That's what I don't get either. Why would he choose to play in antiquated Peden Stadium in front of a lukewarm fan base when he has his pick of football powerhouses to choose from? I'm not buying it.

He can go undefeated and go to a BCS game. He is a sure starter at Ohio versus others, we are close to home. Why not come and build a legacy? Why did Big Ben go to Miami. Medi's open your eyes

He is not coming to be developed. He is coming to give his all for one year. Why not go somewhere, where you will be the guy, somewhere where you can run the table. That is very conceivable, Kansas or Purdue can not beat us in the off season. If we run the table in the MAC and win the MAC championship. Hello BCS for a program that has not won a title since 1968. He would be the key. We actually run an offense suitable to his skill set, we just need to call the right plays.

He can go undefeated and go to a BCS game.
This is true only under the most liberal definition of "can." In that, yes, it's theoretically possible. But the MAC is so low on the totem pole that it requires going undefeated to get into a NY-6 game, and even then, there has to be chaos in the other G5 conferences. There was a legitimate concern that a 2-loss Navy team would have jumped undefeated WMU had Navy won its conference.
Why did Big Ben go to Miami.
Because John Cooper wanted him to be a tight end.

Why did Big Ben go to Miami.
Because John Cooper wanted him to be a tight end.

At first and then they and Michigan offered him as a QB, but he still went to Miami.

What legacy is he going to come and build in one year? Is there going to be an aftershock once he's gone that Ohio will continue to ride?

I am in the camp that this so incredibly far-fetched I can't believe we're actually talking about it.

But your enthusiasm (which I applaud) is a little over the top.

My guess is Zaire is delaying his decision based on Mitch Trubisky at UNC. Trubisky is undecided on whether he wants to return. If he comes back, Zaire will not go to UNC. I'm sure he would rather go to UNC and play for a Larry Fedora offense where Trubisky thrived.

I'm pretty sure he'd rather not come play for a Tim Albin offense where....well, everything comes to die.

Fact. His career has been pretty underwhelming at ND. Injury mostly. But even when he played, he was pushed and evenutally beaten out by another Ohio HS QB in Kizer

If he leads Ohio to a BCS bowl, he will be an Ohio University legend. We will be ranked and he will get plenty of pub. That is much better than finishing 4th in the Big Ten at Wisconsin or 4th in the SEC at Florida. Deshone Kizer is a future lottery pick and if not for Zaire's injury, he would not have had his coming out party. This is how you sell playing at Ohio. He can come in and start and we can legitimately crush Purdue and Kansas and our MAC opponents. We will then be in line with any other non power 5 school for that bowl. There is a good chance Western will be ranked again and we will play them in the MAC championship.

Ok...you're all over the map here.

BCS? What are you referring to? CFP or an NY6 bowl game?

Lottery Pick? Is Kizer playing in the NBA? NFL doesn't have lottery picks.

And you're talking like WMU is guaranteed to be ranked and in the MACC game? WMU opens at USC and at Michigan State. That will be 0-2 and immediately take WMU out of any pre-season ranking....

And if Ohio with Zaire lights up the world, as you suggest, they would be ranked. Right?

In what world would there be two MAC teams ranked? That happened only once in my memory recently...when Kent/NIU were both ranked going into MAC title game a few years back. (both with just one loss by the way)

Again...I love your enthusiasm. But I just think you're kind of going off the deep end here. Zaire is a pipe dream....as is the ridiculous success you seem to think is inevitable if he comes.

I'm sorry....if this kid wants to go NFL. Coming to Ohio doesn't help him nearly as much as going to Wisky, UNC or Florida...even if those teams don't go to the CFP. Playing in the ACC, SEC or B1G prepares you for the NFL much better than playing in the MAC.

Not trying to crush your dreams....but you just seem a little too over your skies on this one.

Charlie Frye, Big Ben, Charlie Batch all played in the NFL, Cooper rush will be drafted this year. If you can play in the MAC, you can play in the NFL. Why come to Ohio? He will have no competition at QB. Could we be ranked? Of course we can, WMU was and they did not beat anybody. Draft lottery, Kizer is projected as a top 10 pick. Can we run the table? We were in every game with Windham as our QB and our 4th string corners. is it inevitable, no, nothing is, it takes work. Will it be easier if he plays at Wiscy or NC, he has already started for a power 5 team and lost his job to a top ten draft pick, he will be scouted wherever he goes. I am no pipe dreamer. I think some people want our program to suck. I don't. Corey jones plays in the MAC and is projected to be drafted in the top 10. If this kid signs and starts making phone calls like most recruits we could be easily primed to run the table. Everybody talks about Houston, WMU is playing in the BCS bowl and that can be us next year.

If we want Ohio to recruit better than we have to believe that we can get the recruits. Why would somebody turn down a power 5 school to play at Ohio. The same reason why ten turned down power 5 schools to go to Western last year. The MAC had a player drafted number overall a few years back. If you can play and want to play right away, the MAC is a great place to play.

Brother...pump the brakes and take a deep breath.

First off. There are no BCS bowls anymore. It's either CFP or NY6.

2nd of all...It's Corey Davis at WMU...not Corey Jones. And he wasn't recruited by Fleck....or any other D1 school...which is why he ended up at WMU. He was a troubled kid in HS and WMU was willing to take the risk...and it paid off.

3rdly, there is no lottery picks in the NFL. That's only in NBA.

4thly...all those players, QBs & draft picks you mentioned were recruited out of HS. I agree that going after better talented HSrs would help Ohio immensely.

I don't think a grad transfer is going to completely shift the course of Ohio football.

Zaire or Morris or whoever isn't going to be handed the job...they'll compete with Maxwell & Rourke for the job.

I think it's obvious from my posting history I don't want Ohio to suck. But I'm also a little more realistic on what's possible. Malik Zaire, I'm sorry to say, is not possible in my mind.
