It appears Western Michigan is subscribing to the Northwestern-Pat Fitzgerald model; get a successful alum who coaches, since the other candidates may bolt at the first whiff of success.

I remember watching Lester in the 1999 MAC Championship game against Marshall. His defense did him no favors in the second half. Gave up 34 points in about 1.5 quarters of play to lose 34-30 after being up 23-0.
