I agree with this. Whatever a coach says, some people will find fault with it.

I vehemently disagree. I wasn't disagreeing that some people will find fault with whatever a coach says. I was saying that Urban Meyer was especially arrogant. He reminded me a lot of Woody Hayes in that regard. I don't think you can compare the statements I quoted with what any OHIO coach has said after a bad loss. They may have made stupid statements. They may have made statements that are self-serving. They may have made CYA statements. They may have made statements full of excuses. However, I can't recall any of our coaches ever making a statement filled with absolutes as though they were the sole determiner of the future of their football team. You can read into Meyer's statements what you will, but to me they were right out of the Woody Hayes Playbook of Football Arrogance.

but...he obviously felt like his team had something to do with that defeat being as bad as it was. Not any different than our own coach after we lost to Western, when he talks about "we" didn't make plays.

Again, its all in the ears of the listener and those who want to find disrespect and hate will.
Perhaps he should take another lesson from the coach that just schooled him on the field:

after the Pitt loss:

http://www.thestate.com/sports/college/acc/clemson-univer...

“At the end of the day, it’s all about finishing. It’s my job to put us in position to finish, and I didn’t do that,” Swinney said. “That’s really where it starts and stops is with me."

“We decided on third down if we didn’t get it we were going for it. Obviously, we could’ve punted it and pinned them deep, but we’ve lived and died all year and made some big plays,” Swinney said. “We didn’t get it done, and that’s on me."

cc-cat, yes, he could have said that. Frank has sometimes said that a loss was "on the coaches" and he said it in such a way that you knew he was including himself. Once I remember he said something about poor offensive play calling, but that was really an exception to the rule. Meyer being humble would be the exception to the rule in Cowtown.

The man said he would evaluate where they were at on offense, that's about him and his staff, not about players or the other team. Many people find Dabo arrogant, especially fans of USC. The hatred and trying to find something to criticize other programs and coaches on this site is laughable at times. Obviously, you guys missed the motherly lesson of if you have nothing good to say....

Only you would criticize the type of man and person Coach Hayes was. And at same time tout a program like Clemson who spent a year cheap shots in on kids genitals. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

You mean like the kind of guy who punches opposing team's players? A real stand-up guy indeed.

And, if you will recall, that was in a game against the aforementioned Clemson. BTW, BTC, I do respect Hayes for some of the things that he did. And, as much as you have inside connections, I'll bet that I've had more personal discussions with Woody than you ever did.

And you've never messed up? Made a mistake, and I might add pay for it? The man taught classes, visited troops, refused pay raises to give to his assistants and was always at the forefront on campus. Typical BS, "but that one time". I'm willing to bet you've never met the man or spent time with him or anyone who played for him or worked with him.

Steve and my uncle graduated together, I've worked with two people who served on his staff, and I've dined at his home in Upper Arlington, and I'd be more than happy to invite you with me to the next time I have lunch with Coach Bruce and you can learn a little.

By a strange coincidence, a very good friend of mine mere moments ago sent me this link to a discussion between Bo and Woody that took place at Doyt Perry's house in Bowling Green. (BTW, Steve was the best man at this friend's wedding; I was an usher in wedding.)

This shows the better side of Woody, IMHO:

There's something lacking in your cognition on this subject. I've been outspoken about some of his negative aspects, including his throwing a microphone in a young reporter's face (mine), but I've never said he didn't have some good aspects of his personality. Heck, he even once gave me a personally autographed copy of his book, "Hot Line to Victory." I'm sure I've said things about that kind of stuff before. BTW, he fell asleep at the wedding I mentioned after I ushered him to his seat. My wife was sitting right next to him. She said, at least he wasn't snoring.

Once, when having lunch with my grandmother at the o$u golf course in the 1970s, I sat one table away from Woody in an otherwise empty room (hoping to join ocf and btc in this intriguing one-upmanship).

Woody Hayes was a good coach
Woody Hayes was an arrogant coach
Woody Hayes (I'm sure - deep down) was a good man
Woody Hayes (for all I know) rescued cats
Woody Hayes punched an opposing player
Woody Hayes had to be fired
Woody Hayes was (appropriately) fired

OSU just got schooled by Clemson.
Urban could have taken more direct responsibility
Not surprised.
