Most quarterbacks hit a pretty good percentage of throwing catchable balls to wide-open receivers.

Beyond that absolute requirement, off the top of the head, recently I recall the qb's of Buffalo, BG, Appy State and TX State being able to do the needed, more-refined skill of seeding a ball with some arm-strength into small windows.

Haven't much seen that from an OHIO qb for years.


Without such ability, there's a ceiling on how good we can be.



To anyone who disagrees with me (look--I'm playing defensive already!), I think that you are not observing well.

It's why those of you who predicted a fine season for us, despite our unproven qb situation, will, very likely, be way off base.



Simply, no savvy-skilled qb, no way.





For those who'll say, yeah, but Buffalo's Licata didn't lead his team anywhere, a sound qb is a must-have...but it's not a guarantee...more is needed from the rest of the team.

Including Windham's very first pass last week to Papi White, perfectly thrown, only to go through White's hands. A sure TD if caught.

Thought there was a pretty sweet catch by Mr, Belack and a few last week by Ball.
Perhaps things are about to cycle upward.

Good call. Our receivers consistently catch a reasonable % of wide open balls and our qb's hit a reasonable % of wide open receivers and can/do gun the ball when needed.

Monroe, once again, it's not your opinion that we're backsliding in recent years that is off-putting. It's how many times you repeat yourself every chance you get, off topic and in everyone's face. You're actually the Donald Trump of this board (Did you assault women? I will defeat ISIS.) When you actually reply and cite actual observations in context? Good stuff. Many agree with your overall opinion of things recently, but also think Frank has enough credit to be given a chance to right the ship. Texas State debacle + our overall offensive performance this season leaves me with doubts about the overall direction of the program. Against our current schedule, it's frankly disgusting to me that we're not 7-1 right now. We should be an EASY 7-1.

That said, you're just flat out wrong to say there have been no achievements in 11 years. Three East titles, two bowl wins, win at Penn State, close call at evil empire, and multiple p5 wins. Personally, Penn State was us jumping the shark for me. You claim to be reason and fact-based, but you're not. At all. you pick facts that support your case - and they do exist - but you ignore everything else. So stop spending SO much time telling everyone how right you are. Not everyone who disagrees with you (some of the board) or is annoyed by you (mostly everyone) is a Solich "apologist".

then you're both wrong. Are there any RECENT achievements upon which to hang a hat? NIU last year maybe, 8-4 overall, but nothing earth-shattering. so sure, I don't think many like the way things look in recent years. but to say there have been no accomplishments in 11 years is just wrong.

In the 11 years, there have been some decent achievements but none that were memorably notable save for the victory over Pitt at home and, probably, the win at Penn State.

We didn't beat very good teams in the bowl games.

But that's not the bigger part of the point. The bigger part is

1) a record largely built on beating cupcakes (so, remove them and tell me the record),

2) so many crashing losses to peer (MAC) teams, and

3) the last four years have been boring, regressing (same old stuff...and it's increasingly ineffective and unexciting) and bad football with nothing close to a nice achievement.

To think that it's going to get better without significant change is not thinking.



Been telling you that for years. Can't figure out how it is that so many are only now seeing this.


We all know how one season like the last four years would get a coach at any school with reasonable football hopes fired at year end if not mid-year. I know that we're not USC or Alabama. But I just don't get how the years of horrid losses with not much good to offset has been so tolerated so long.



If you just want a nice day in Athens, that's fine. But we don't need a football team at all for that. If we are going to have a team, though, we ought to expect it to win a MACC once in 11 years.
