Could the mystery transfer be Torrance Gibson? He was suspended this year at OSU, so he has technically sat out. I know Urban Meyer wanted him back, but the university said no.

What's all this about a mystery transfer?

Couple coaches before Christmas were tweeting their excitement about how the offense just improved greatly and that they have a real playmaker, something to that.

As far as I can tell, the tweets only reveal that it's an offensive skill player and do not reveal whether it's a recruit or transfer or what position. I believe one person on the board had a source say it was a one-year fill-in at quarterback.

He's JUCO bound...not another FBS school

Just to be clear, he only said Ohio looks to be trying to "rent" a QB for a season. He didn't name names but essentially eluded to it being a graduate transfer.

Unless TBA transfer can get 10+ yards UTM 20 plays a game I don't know if he will make a huge splash ; ).

Really do hope it's not a mercenary QB. Would really like to see a QB1 develop and become a top tier MAC talent for several years. I also want a place in Tahiti and that's not coming anytime soon.

He will do great things there, we probably should have kicked the tires. on second thought, he probably would not have been admitted here. Ohio is not really a second chance school. There was one great one during my day by the name of Sid Hall. i still remember him trucking that NC State defender on the way to the end zone in a game that was stolen from us.

He got his Associates Degree from Cincinnati State apparently so he would be eligible for enrollment at UC.

If I remember right, they didn't technically steal it from us...we blew it. Nick Toth missed a block on a punt that allowed NC State to block it for the game-winning TD.

That NC State game. Brutal. Is there any way to view any of those old games from the Grobe era for instance? I've scoured You Tube but I'm no expert.

I was one of about 20 OHIO fans at this game...Hurricane Earl was on top of us and it was the wettest I've ever been, including daily bathing.

I love how a guess thread turns into we suck and aren't a destination. Was there ever any interest in Gibson by Ohio coaches? Doubtful. This kid is a tremendous athlete but basically got tossed out of Columbus. He was lured there by a false promise he could compete for a spot at QB.The suspension reason was never officially revealed. Who knows what he did?
I wish him luck but if he ended up here, which probably was never in play for either party it would have been a project and if he did he had plenty of baggage.

No, the officials allowed the runner on the returned punt, in the rain, to recover his own fumble and then waltz into the end zone. Even the announcers at the time reran the play and showed clearly that the runner had fumbled the ball and then picked it up and continued his game-wining TD run. In college football they said, at least at the time (think it's still true), you are not allowed to advance your own fumble.

Marshall once lost a game at NC State 15-14. Marshall lead the whole game until a winning TD drive in the final minutes. The only problem with the drive was that NC State got 5 downs at one point in the drive. This sequence was played over and over on Huntington TV the week after the game.

Although these may be coincidental, and probably are, I've had questions about NC State football ever since.

+1 Grobe said we got snookered. There was a phantom holding call as well.

Torrance Gibson is better than any QB or WR on our roster, he is far from a prospect. http://www.news-herald.com/article/HR/20160416/SPORTS/160...

Yes, wasn't that phantom holding call on the previous play, which caused us to have to punt again from a worse place on the field? I know there was some penalty on our original successful punt that forced us to punt a second time. It was on that second punt that they had the run back with the advanced fumble.

yes, you are right. I think they were ranked number 6 as well at the time. We would have ruined their season. They had Torry Holt, but our offense was rolling.

I and my family were at that NC St game. There were more than 20 Ohio fans there. Attended the Bobcat Bash pregame. Hurricane Earl was horrible. Rain was coming down in sheets horizontally. I believe the game was stolen from us. Almost had a "discussion" with some Wolfpack fans after the game, but fortunately my better half was there to intervene.

Perhaps there were many fans at the Bash but in the stands, during the downpour, in the OHIO section, there were very few people. There was a nice showing a few years later when we played them.

Well, he doesn't actually attend OHIO games, so no. Because, you know, it's really hard to fly a few hours to support your favorite team. The same team that you sit at home and rant about thousands and thousands of times saying the same thing.
