Granted, I know nothing about WMU's QB depth, but I would assume the one advantage Ohio might have is that at least they have one QB with at least some experience, no? Terrell was the starter for several years at Western Michigan, so I would think whoever starts for them will have no experience (unless it's a 5th year transfer student like some here are hoping Ohio gets). Just an uneducated first guess.

I've only seen bits and pieces, speaking of qb's, of USC's Sam Darnold. And watching him in today's Rose Bowl.

That is a quarterback. Size, strength, mobile, great vision/awareness, gun of an arm.

I know that he's exceptional. Looks like he'll be a very fine pro.

That's what we ought to compare the qb talent which we seek and have on to. We can't come close to that talent. But before you tell me a guy has a good arm or is mobile, realize what true arm strength, mobility, etc are.

Our qb talent has been very modest for the most part.

WMU's backup quarterback is Tom Flacco. He 0-1 in pass attempts in 2016, but was 10-12 for 186 yards and a TD in 2015.

McSorely is an athlete. Can't at all see him as an NFL talent.


Darnold has a rifle arm. And presence.

Darnold is flat-out impressive. Looks like a true NFL talent. Not a slight towards McSorley as the kid is a true competitor. Great bowl game that had all the makings of whoever had the ball last was probably going to win.

I have no reason to doubt you; in fact, I agree on this point.

If we are honest about the situation. Quinton Maxwell has a very good arm and is very mobile. He needs to work on poise and accuracy. I seen him throw a 3rd and 9 out to Sebastian Smith and there are people playing on Sundays that cannot make that throw. Drew Brees and Cody kessler are two that come to mind. Keszei has decent arm strength and great mobility. He is a great athlete, I think I read somewhere that he won a dunk contest. He seems to have poise and accuracy. The question will be can he adjust to the speed of the game. Nathan Rourke looks pretty mobile, he will need more discipline. He is much more accurate than Maxell at this point and his arm strength is ok. I feel so bad about Keszei's injury, I hope he does not end up like Duckworth. Our coaches have to be able to identify talent and bring it to Athens. The QB play we have witnessed over the last four years has been substandard. That has to change, hopefully this is the year.

Wow. LOL. The last part sums it up best as to why you'll never be happy with Ohio as your program. Do you honestly think Ohio is going to attract the same kind of talent and players at QB as a program such as USC??? If your answer is yes, then it removes all doubt about your ability to reason. And for the love of God, if you try and play the "USC and Ohio are both FBS programs" card to compare QB talent then you just need to become an OSU fan and give up on Ohio now because you're forever going to be disappointed with those unreal expectations.

Will he ever have a better QB than USC? we should at one point be better at that position, will we ever have as much talent, probably not. USC has a national recruiting presence and they have plenty of talent in their backyard, They are in a better conference and let's not forget that Matt Leinart spent his whole senior in the playboy mansion, I would say it is not reasonable to compare the two, but you have to identify talent. There was a time where the MAC had 3 QBs drafted before USC's QB, There was a time recently that we had a player not a qb drafted before an Ohio State player. After you identify talent, you build a system and fine tune it then you are hard to beat like a Boise State or WMU.

We do need to improve our self-image. There is absolutely no reason we can't at some point recruit the next Big Ben, Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich, or even Charlie Frye.

But, when you tell me a guy has an arm, please understand what a real arm looks like.

No one on OHIO since TT has shown an arm that is anything above very average--when considering arm strength and accuracy. TT did not have much arm strength, but he was accurate.

There were a few here who suggested TT as an NFL prospect. If you thought that, you have little idea of the talent that the NFL requires.

Pleae read what I said and tell me where it says to fire Solich or sets an expectation that he bring in a Darnold.

Quite the opposite, I point to Darnold as exceptional.

We'll never get a guy like that.


The post you refer to doesn't eve say the following, which I think is inarguable: Our qb play has not been very good generally. Arguableyless than average for the MAC.

I, personally, was not all that disappointed in what I saw from Maxwell. I thought he looked to have the physical tools, he just played like a freshman at times. I fully expect to see a lot of improvement from this year to next based solely on his starting experience as a Freshman. I admittedly don't know anything about the other guys, but I'm actually excited to see what Maxwell can do next fall.

Maxwell completed 55% of his tosses for 8 tds, 4 interceptions. No other returning qb threw a ball according to ohiobobcats.com.

Our top returning receiver had 41 catches with next highest returning totals Belack (19) and Ball (16).
