Are we missing the fact that Frank wants duel threat athletes at Quarterback. I feel he has come more towards the "true" QB side of the spectrum in the more recent years. Ran into shopping at a mid-major for an above average duel threat passer is like shopping for a Tesla on a Prius budget. A lot of times you are left with clearance rack qb's that have some appealing factors, but just aren't it. A majority of the stats mentioned in this threat are in regards to passing, and pay minimal homage to the running abilities of these qbs. Look around Mid-Majors through the NFL consistent QB play is a premium, especially! for dual threats. Yet none of the quarterbacks listed were ever hyped to be prolific passers. Especially at OU where the football culture and stability have come a long way, but still relatively young and underachieving. Remember there is always a story behind the story. My observations are my own, but agree we are yet to have OUr MAC Anomaly (Insert MAC Qb Namesakes Here). As doom in gloom as this thread can be I say meh not so fast...
Gdowski Qb's
Everson- A Tim Tebow of the MAC before Tim Tebow, Hell of a leader tough strong athlete, but marginal passer at best. Not recruited by Solich/Gdowski
Bower- His Pedigree OU seemed like a peace of mind for the staff, and check the box fall back for Bower. Many would say he significantly regressed from the year he sat out to his actual snaps w/OU.
Jones- Closest to a true pocket passer OU has had, played as a true freshman that never progressed with injury etc. Not near the athlete proclaimed to be in HS by recruiting services.
Febus- Raw talent coming in, Immature Locker room character that never took his craft serious enough to progress the way he needed to at this level
Scott- By far the best athlete to takes snaps at OU under Frank. 6-2 205 4.4 could spin it with the best, accurately. But injuries and mental breakdowns while always looking over his shoulder never allowed him to achieve his potential
Jackson- Straight up roller coaster ride, hyped athleticism but a good enough athlete to keep plays alive. Lived and died by the big play, but minimal consistency
Sweeney- Derailed by injury too early to fairly evaluate
Tettleton- By far the most consistent and highly decorated. Groomed, polished solid athlete with systematic passing qualities. I agree his time benefited by some of the more talented support staff of initial Solich buzz recruits. Disappointingly Grew into a complacent detached QB who appeared "over it".
Izzy Qb's
Vick- I was pretty much over him quickly, and his mediocre arrogance as stated lost starting role that was always begging for him to step up.
Sprague- Agree was a stop-gap, tough enjoyable scrapper you couldn't help but root for. Pedigree and tools nothing to write home about above average throwing ability, passing not so much.
Windham- Once again over hyped athletic ability coming in, but mentally never appeared to have the confidence to truly own the position.
Maxwell- Young, but overall I like his tools and certainly feel there is the possibility of a big step happening between this year and next... TBD
This is one of the best posts I've read in a while.
