There is no QB battle at all. It is extremely difficult for anyone much less a QB to come into a FBS program and be ready to play. Maxwell is the man by far and its not even questionable.
I'll take this as the first eye witness report on the status of the various QBs. Thanks. Maxwell was good at times last year, but had a lot of room to improve, and has a lot of upside. He seems smart, and very, very hard working, and I've stated previously that I think he will improve tremendously from his first year to his second. In particular, I expect that the game will slow down for him.
Rourke also seems to have a lot of ability, and also has a lot of upside. He's coming into a new system, and also adapting to a new school, so he starts out way behind. It's not surprising in the least that at this point Maxwell is way ahead. If Rourke has the kind of talent that I think he has, he'll close the gap some during the Spring, and then, IF there will be a quarterback battle, it will be staged next fall, perhaps later than that.
And then, of course, there is the question whether Zaire is QB #6. If he is, and he does show up, there is no doubt he has ability, but, he still has to learn the playbook, and the players. It is not a given that he can beat out either Rourke or Maxwell.
the post article made it seem like there was no qb battle and rourke was there for window dressing. I find that very hard to believe.
I didn't see anything in the Post about quarterbacks. Two-ply toilet paper is a more immediate concern.
