I've seen almost identical figures somewhere else, and it's not what was originally reported. If Albin knew how to play his cards better, he could have had a better deal at OHIO. I agree, though, with BLSS, I think OHIO is actually going to be better off, at least in the short term, with Smith.
I think you're right when you say in the short term. I think if Albin would've gotten a deal done, he would've been around for the long haul.
I'm worried if Smith sees success, he'll bolt as quickly as he got hired on.
Truth is any success we have is a good thing, and it will likely lead to bigger and better opportunities for the coach. We just don't compete at that level. Never have. We're a great G5 program. We just have to hope we find ourselves in that position that we're winning so much the coach is getting bombarded with offers. It never feels good to lose a coach for any reason, but if we're losing coaches because they're winning too much...
I can live with that. Next man up.
*edit*
To add on, whom do we think is the worst P5 team? Purdue? Maryland?
Purdue - Odom, avg of $6.5M per season. Just signed a $39M contract.
Maryland - Locksley, $6.1M per season. $7M if they win 7 games.
The amount of money is obscene. That is like 30% of our entire athletic budget.
