Looks like the first one to go to Charlotte under Albin is Clay Finney our director of player personnel who will be in that same role.

Wonder who else will be next?

Sounds like a step up for him.

So, what does the Director of Player Personnel do in our program or UNCC? Manage the portal? Scout talent? That would make sense but would also be a critical position in terms of the portal. How much does that position pay in G5 Conferences? Pretty much what Lombardi will do for NC. Pretty important gig.

Let’s delay the hiring of head coach and lose more.

I assume you mean Board of Trustees? Don't they all live in Cbus? :)

Why, yes I do. I do not know where they live but I do believe their responsibilities include, at least in theory, getting involved for the good of the university when the situation requires it; in the background of course. :)

"in the background"......They should be Front Line......

The Cbus dynamic is poisoned...

Have We/OU took Any shot at risk taking to potentially Maximize opportunities per D1 coaches/sports programs opportunities lately - per benefit of the actual sports programs and potential benefits to the university lately? In my view we have been Very Predictably Risk Averse. That's not typically a good business or any organization business strategy. Especially considering current dynamics....

Not at all surprised Clay has exited Athens. Had a chance to meet him during summer camp. He told me "I would run through a wall for Coach Albin."

He played a big part in assembling the list of portal prospects who might make sense for Ohio. More of an administrative job than evaluating talent and making decisions. I'm sure he's doing exactly that for Charlotte, which they need badly.

Honestly had a conversation about who on the staff would be a must keep and my first thought was whoever manages their portal evaluation. The players brought in last season were fantastic fits and provided impact needed instantly in key areas.

Director of Player Personnel and Director of Operations are relatively new positions. The NCAA had limits on the number of coaches in each sport. These new positions were created to get around the limits and to relieve the staff of the admin tasks they previously performed.

The NCAA dropped the coach limits this past summer, but like anything they'll keep the positions.

The portal evaluation can be tough since you can't visit with players and their families prior to them coming to campus like a HS recruit, so it’s hard to get an idea of how they would fit into team culture. Some players wont even talk to coaches—its done through their agent! Finney did a great, great job, but to be honest, a lot of our portal recruits were guys that had previously been recruited by our staff and had chosen elsewhere for one reason or another. And that goes back to Navarro, who visited Hawaii when Smith was there.

This portal is CRAZY, people. Right now there are agents out there texting our guys they have six figures waiting for them at a Big 10 school. Just sign on with me, and I’ll get you the cash. Oh and I will take 25%. By the way, the six figures aren't binding. But the 25% is.

I hope the coaches point to the Sieh Bangura portal decision and how that all panned out. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

My original point here was in foolish error. This is still a nice tweet tho!(However unrelated to the thread's topic.)

Doing a little research, Ohio is the ONLY program in the FBS to not have a single player in the portal to this point. Not joking

Just an absurd stat that shows the culture and faith inside the program

I guess this tweet from late on 12/12 is either already outdated or bad data.

Still impressive that the number is so low at this point. Figured those that wanted to portal were waiting til after the bowl game. But plenty of other schools bowling can't claim that kind of retention.
Err….

Those guys all transferred out of Ohio after LAST year, but are right back again this year from their respective 2024 teams.

Indeed, I have been made aware of my error. Too hasty in my reading. Oops! Thanks for clarifying.

I hope Athens is back in his plans. Perhaps he has a good relationship with former RB Coach Brian Smith?

He had a GREAT relationship with Albin. In fact, Albin had weekly phone calls with Bangura's mother.

I'm guessing he ends up in Charlotte.

Looks like Charlotte has picked up on our brick idea and now they’re saying “Brick worthy “ with their recruits. Interesting

Interesting. Given this fact, any idea why he decided to come back to OHIO rather than go to UNCC?
