I thought it was interesting to see how the conferences stacked up in the draft. You have to realize that with the NFL having 50-55 players the first 4 rounds of the NFL draft are equivalent to the first round of the NBA draft. Then rounds 5 through 7 are the second round. I have argued the talent level in the MAC is not far off an average Big Ten team these days. Tennessee had 6 players drafted and we gave them all they could handle last season.

SEC 53 (Alabama 10, Florida 8, LSU 8)
ACC 42 (Miami 8)
PAC-12 36 (Utah 8)
Big Ten 35 (Michigan 11, Ohio St 7)
AAC 15 (Houston 3, USF 3, Temple 3)
Big XII 14 (Oklahoma 4)
MAC 12 (Western Mich 3, Toledo 3)
CUSA 9 (Louisiana Tech 3)
MWC 8 (San Diego St 3)
SBC 5

If you take Michigan, Ohio St, Iowa and Wisconsin from the Big Ten totals the remaining 10 teams had less players drafted than the MAC this year.

Does anyone know what the record number of MAC draftees is in the NFL draft and is the 12 taken this year possibly it? Also, I can't imagine that Conference USA expected to be outdone by the MAC in the draft. In addition, I am sure the Big XII would rather not have anyone know that they only had a couple more draftees than the MAC.

Seeing these totals show me that while the top say 1/3 or so of P5 teams are good to great, the MAC is pretty darn close to the middle to back of these conferences.

Heck CMU only went 3-5 in the MAC but beat Okie State in Stillwater, Cats beat Kansas in Lawrence etc. I would have put Western up against anyone in the B12 last year and would have picked them over all but the Sooners.

Take away Oklahoma, arguably the Big 12 torchbearer the past few years, they have dip even more. Only 9 total beyond the Sooners.

-Only one Texas player shows you how low that program has been as of late

-No players drafted from Iowa State nor Kansas albeit they are the bottom rung of the conference

-Almost 1/3 of their draftees were not taken until the 7th round. While they are plenty diamonds in the rough

First Round
Patrick Mahomes (Texas Tech), QB, Kansas City Chiefs-did anyone else kind of scratch their head on this one-at least the hoops they jumped through to take him here?

Second Round
Joe Mixon (Oklahoma), RB, Cincinnati Bengals

Third Round
Jordan Willis (K-State), OLB, Cincinnati Bengals
D'Onta Foreman (Texas), RB, Houston Texans
Rasul Douglas (West Virginia), CB, Philadelphia Eagles

Fourth Round
Dede Westbrook (Oklahoma), WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
Samaje Perine (Oklahoma), RB, Washington Redskins

Fifth Round
Shelton Gibson (West Virginia), WR, Philadelphia Eagles

Sixth Round
Jordan Evans (Oklahoma), LB, Cincinnati Bengals
Vincent Taylor (Oklahoma State), DT, Miami Dolphins

Seventh Round
Josh Carraway (TCU), OLB, Tennessee Titans
Elijah Lee (K-State), LB, Minnesota Vikings
Kyle Fuller (Baylor), C, Houston Texans
Chris Carson (Oklahoma State), RB, Seattle Seahawks

Western wasn't the only MAC team with 3 players selected. Toledo had 3 as well.

And how does the MAC fare if you take out the 8 picks of the top 3 represented schools (Western, Toledo, Ohio)? What's that leave us? 4 players drafted? That may be one of the worse statements I've read in a long long time.

My best friend the insurance agent told me that the B1G has 14 teams and the MAC has only 12 teams. I don't think that Uncle Wes was saying that we did better than the B1G, I think he was saying that if you take out the top three teams, we are very comparable. We (Ohio) did very well for teams that got the most players drafted to play LINEBACKER.

Comparable? 14-12, hell pro-rate it, I really do not care. When you go removing the top of anything in a what-if game, we, it's just that, a "what if". A fantasy world and alternate reality. Which I am sure you know all about! A guy who's never won at anything and has nothing better to do than to make 15 post a days.

Why lol? Please stop. What have you won? You confessed to breaking someone's leg in spring ball by rolling a bucket at someone's legs. You lied abouthaving at agent friend that said that a tremendous young man could not transition to linebacker. Now you are trying to role me with a water bucket. Let's not revert to insults. We know the depths at which you would go to support your opinions. Uncle Wes was not trying to create an alternate reality, he was making a point. Coaches can use data like that to get recruits to come here instead of Illinois or Purdue. We beat out 21 power 5 schools for recruits this year and the recent success of the MAC, could help us beat out more. I believe that you made an argument, what if you removed Ohio, WMU and Toledo, I agree with your line of thinking there.

Allen. Uncle Wes said Michigan, Ohio state, Iowa, Wisconsin. I still think that adds up to 4 teams, not 3 as you say.

You are just dumb! I stated that if you "take" the four best teams out of any conference in an attempt to compare them to another conference, well that simply just does not work. I'm sure the Indiana's of the Big10 would love to "remove" those teams and their success from the Big10, but you simply cannot. It's not apples to apples.

Obviously, removing the top four teams in the Big Ten is not a fair way of comparing entire conferences. I don't think anyone was trying to say that. But it does show that the top teams in the MAC are comparable in draft success, for whatever that is worth, to the middle and lower teams in the Big Ten.
