I bet if we have a number 1 overall pick, we win the MACC the previous season, too. You are too closed minded in your thinking. It's not a zero sum game. These are not mutually exclusive options. In fact, they are additive.

I would like to see both. If we have the first pick and lose the MAC, our recruiting classes the following years will be spectacular. If forced to pick, I would rather see us have the number 1 draft pick because of what it would do for future recruiting.

You have every other day of the year to play with your strawmen. It's been a great couple of days for Tarell Basham and Blair Brown and a good couple of days for Ohio University and Ohio Football. Honestly, if you're to the point where you can't be happy, you need to step away.

Give me an offensive playmaker who is a #1 pick - and it's not even close. Exponentially more press for the college, an exciting 2-3-4 years of football for fans ("remember that time he put up Miami"), huge boost for recruiting, and a career in the NFL with constant reference to OHIO. the alternative is we win a title that the majority of fans (not associated with this site) either think we have already won ("I mean we are always in bowl games so I'm sure we have won) and/or don't care ("we are always so good compared to when I was there, I'm sure we'll win one some day"). Instead those fans/alum get a face of the program and more reference to the university than ever before. Plus not winning a title does not hurt the draft status of the player (as the Bears just illustrated).

Well said. I was excited that we had 2 guys drafted this year. Why the negativity continues every day of the year suggests someone who isn't proud of his alma mater regardless of what is accomplished. Congrats Tarell, Blair and Casey.

Having two guys drafted is an incredible achievement for our football program. But success in games is still the measuring stick we all use. Youngstown State had two players drafted in the approximate positions that Ohio did. They are proud too but it is not a total indicator of the success of your program.

I propose a Monroe thread which can be a single discussion thread for all of the topics created by or related to Monroe. You can read or respond to the thread at your own risk and it would stop some of the repetitive complaint spamming in other threads which has admittedly gotten worse over time.

YSU had 2 guys drafted and the Missouri Valley FB conference had....2 guys total drafted.

Eric Fisher went #1 to the Chiefs in the 2013 Draft.

CMU finished 7-6, 4th in the MAC West.

The two are not additive.

Some people seem to have anger issues and inability to recognize things posted merely to generate discussion.

Some people seem to believe that there's a correct point of view such that other points of view should not be tolerated.

Some people seem inclined to blame the messenger for pointing out when things are not as they should be or as others claim them to be. Aren't facts objective, free of bias?

The problem, Monroe is that you are a 1-trick pony. Everything comes back to being a MAC champion. Those of us who have different definitions of success, in your opinion, don't have high enough expectations of the program.

The drafting of Basham and Brown should be celebrated and enjoyed. This is a great thing. Why diminish those achievements by spinning it into your constant, droning message about how poor our program is because we've never won a MAC title in the Solich era? I can't wait to see Basham this year. I'm just disappointed that the Browns didn't draft him because I guarantee I would have gotten his jersey.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and take a look around, you could miss it.

You're missing some good things with this program. Enjoy the ride.

1) Because we play football, an endeavor in which score is kept, and we do it in the MAC. Put a lot of resources to the program.

So, hoping for a MAC title doesn't seem irrational. Again, I refer back to the one poll (likely the most responded to on this site...while admitting it's not a perfect prism, it's the best we have) in which, as I recall, about 65-70% placed a MAC title as the top goal.

So, it's not only me.


2) I do get the point of other goals. I don't think that I've totally denied them.

But a lot of those could be pursued outside of having a football team...things such as a nice day of camaraderie in Athens, student academic success, keeping alumni involved with the University, etc.


Sorry; but if we're going to play football in the MAC, you are NEVER going to get me to believe that winning a MAC title is less than the number one goal.


3) For the deniers who do seem to want a MACC AND who think we're right on the path to that:

We're in the land of FACTS here. This staff has had 12 years of no MACC. In a MAC in which every year there are 5-7 really lousy teams. In a MAC that's got 12 teams (some years had 13). Led by a staff that so many revere. I thik that there's literally been talk of putting a stature of Solich up. Seriously?

But no MACC.


And if you think that a team that loses a 3rd and fifth rounder and a UFA from the defense and which has questions on the O-line, very little experience returning at wide receiver, and big question marks(s) at Qb is going to be a really good club this coming season--well, then you're dreams appear to far outpace likely reality.

So, whoopee, year 13 with no MAC.


But hey, were not stuck in a period of 17 wins in 11 years so, really, it must be just perfect. We're really getting a superb return on the resources and... of course...that means that

I'm the problem.


If I'd stop my insistence, then every thing would be perfect about this program.


My drive for some level of excellence is the problem.

No one is making this about you, except for you. No one is saying "Gee, the Ohio Football Team is perfect, the only problem is Monroe Slavin."

At what point do you recognize that your own persistence is killing this web site? When do you come to the realization that you made your point and can move along to other things? Instead, you continue to beat this dead horse and now you're threatening the quality of this entire message board.

Talk about a selfish, narcissistic, blowhard, whiny, crybaby mentality. Hold up the mirror, Monroe.

The moderators seemed to have decided the best way to manage Monroe is to just let him rattle, endlessly. The assumption being that even you will ultimately get bored with it and move on. Problem is, you don't work that way. You take some sort of pleasure out of punishing people with your endless opinion, and ALL must agree with you or else. Or else you'll continue to punish the community. It's like extortion.

When someone finally does challenge you, you run away from it. You spin. You trumpet "facts." Of course, your facts are subject to interpretation. But that interpretation requires some sort of open dialogue. You're too closed-minded for that. For you, 8-6 is worse than 8-5. That's the end of discussion. No need for counter points. Your mind is made up.

Fine. But then you post about it forevermore. In theory your point is to build consensus. But I don't think so. I think you enjoy playing the part of the lone wolf. The brilliant sage who no one would listen to, but ultimately was right all along (kind of the way you fancy the Knorr situation went down).

I think you're playing games with people. The problem is, it's becoming so boring and predictable that it is threatening the quality of this message board. I don't have a solution for that, but I can tell you it's a shame. You've been told this before by numerous posters. It always falls on deaf ears, just as this message will.

If you want to inject interest into this site, then please come up with new material. If you don't have anything to say, then don't. Just my advise. I'm sure you'll ignore it.
