Just heard that we might be keeping the score the first game the way they do at the Masters - by hand. Can anyone confirm that?

Where did you hear it? If it is from a representative of the company that is doing the scoreboard upgrade then it may be true. Consider your source.

Looks like there will at least be a scoreboard there.

Akron is rushing to complete their scoreboard, too - in their basketball arena.

When I talked with the guys doing the work about three weeks ago, they said the scoreboard would have 162 panels and that at that time, there was a certain amount of uncertainty as to delivery and the schedule for completion. Today the news was that there would be a temporary scoreboard for the first game and perhaps the speakers wouldn't be ready either. That's why I asked if anyone else had heard anything. I was hoping our resident OU reporter would be asking those questions and reporting accordingly. I'm hoping the information I got was wrong because that would take away from the excitement of the annual first game of the year at night.

They are going to have to provide some fantastic reasons as to why there won't be a fully operating scoreboard and sound system (if what's being said is true).

I really hope the school is not to blame for this potential debacle.

This is the same school that gave us the infamous Killarney Bowl.

Total garbage. I mean it isn't like they didn't know when the first game was going to be or anything.

Hopefully Ohio negotiated a stiff penalty if the installation was late.

The university fully refunded all those who had signed up and paid for the bowl. I was one of those. Charlie Ping is a man of great integrity, and he dug into university funds to pay those refunds.

PLease tell me this is some practical joke being played on the fans. Even when we do something right, we can't do it right.

I guess this turn of events presents a new answer to the old question "Is that not the scoreboard?" The correct answer will apparently be "Yes, that is not the scoreboard."

I would hope that the scoreboard contract has a "liquidated damages" provision.
If its not done, you get hit with "x' dollars per day till it is.

I jus t saw an amazing add for a 55" TV for $400. Worst case, that's about the same size as the old scoreboard, so would serve in the interim (assuming The athletic department has an extension cord that will stretch to the nearest working outlet...probably one of the bike path lights)

I would sure hope something of this magnitude, that has a deadline regarding when it is needed, has liquidated damages included. Hopefully they're not capped at something insanely low like 2% or something that gives about no motivation for the installer to catch up.

I went by Peden stadium this morning and I took the photos below.  I apologize that the lighting is not great because I was taking the shots into the sun, and I was too lazy to come back in the afternoon when the sun would be to my back.  Nonethelss, I think you can see that the screen is all up, and that the only things left are the logo on top and the trim on the sides.  It seems to me that this could be easily done by game time on Saturday for the Hampton contest.  But, what do I know, I'm only a dumbass poster on BA, with no knowledge of the inner workings of the AD's office. smiley

There is also no way to know what else needs to be done in the way of wiring.
