I love naming the starter now. I've never been a fan of the two headed QB, other than to get the #2 some game time in a live game rather than a scrimmage.

Q impressed me as having a lot more potential to be explosive down field last year than we've seen from others in this program in a few years. I hope his game develops and those flashes he's shown with his arm become more frequent. I also hope the game plan and the O-line keep him upright and behind center without injury this year.

I really believe they've gotten the program to the point that the biggest thing missing from winning in Detroit is a QB that can make the big plays with his arm.

I wanna believe that, but when we had it, our vaunted offense went to sleep in half #2. (against a bad defensive team)

we just needed one FG! One FG in that 2nd half and we hang on to win. Is it the QB? Did TT just not have his best game? How did they lock us down so badly in that second half? it's confounded me to this day. even the first half, where we racked up lots of yards, we relied on some trick plays and lots of turnovers just to score 20. That game should have been over at half.

Of course, all that is behind us and I'm not bitter.

Q has major potential. Big body, big arm, nice running threat. but if he's throwing around 55% accuracy again, this job will be Mr. Rourke's in a matter of a couple weeks.

All good points, DFC. I don't pretend to be a student of the finer points of the game (a-la LC). I've seen the same flashes everyone else has, and I agree if he can't make the basic completions and avoid turnovers, the job won't be his for long.

As for the past you refer to, I have no idea, but it's a good point. I remember that day well, and still take the blame for that one. I showed up to the game watch just before halftime, and they didn't score a point after I arrived.

(no superstitions here....)

I hate to quibble over the details, but the game that you're referring to was called at halftime (no winner) on account of bad weather. (Or at least that's my memory of went down in the dome)

Keeping in mind that the fans' favorite player is the backup QB, how long before we start hearing calls for Rourke to start? Of course, if Rourke does start at some point, fans will call for Maxwell again (or Keszei or Duckworth).

At some places named the starter means you'r the man. At Ohio it means nothing. The first bad game and out of there.

I don't think it's any different than anywhere else. Everson, Scott, Jackson, and Tettleton were all clear starters. In recent years the injuries to Vick, Sprague, and Windham have made it tough to keep the same person at the top. If there is a difference, it's in the fact that they try to give the backup some reps with the first team while the game is still on the line (I.E. In the second quarter). I personally think that's a good plan.

I don't think this is very true. Do you think qbs have been pulled prematurely? I don't think we've had anyone since TT perform so well that his job security shouldn't be questioned. Windham had some nice games, but let's face it, the offense was a disaster for long stretches of time last year. Frank had to shake things up.

Maxwell was named starter yet pulled after 3 series in the second game due to performance. Its a combo of a shorter leash plus an insistence in ranking QBs by experience instead of ability.

I don't mind Frank's two QB system if there's good competition. I imagine Maxwell was told to move the offense or Nathan's going in.
