That is the new video/scoreboard, and the West stands are having the brick and stone work shored up from the deficiencies that surfaced last year. Aside from the scoreboard the only thing you will notice is there should not be falling chunks of concrete.

I think it's only the outside walls, maybe wrong on that.

Same structure, but a more comprehensive board and greater vision and sound

But if they still pay crap music, the greater sound is just greater noise.

Will the video board be the same size, or will it be slightly larger -- taking up more of the total area of the scoreboard? There are some options, I would think, about how the elements on the scoreboard are arranged. I certanly hope they position the play clock so that people can't stand in front of it and block its view from the field.

Thanks. That answers my question. Sounds like a big improvement.

If I were to guess it's more 'Darn kids and their RAP music.'

Now that they have the video board, maybe, just maybe, we'll see some interactive options for things like what music is played in OUr venues with them.

Anyone remember the sound system when we played at UK a few years ago? Wow did they have a boomin system. If we're 30% of that Peden will be much improved.

I didn't make that trip, but I am anxious to see and feel the effects of this on the in stadium atmosphere come September. As I've said before related to a Convo video/scoreboard upgrade, my hope is that they realize the full potential of using the new board and sound systems to improve fan interaction during the game. Using it to engage on Twitter and other social media during the game will go a long ways in improving fan engagement for years to come. There's a "cool factor" associated with pulling from social media to the video board during the game that should not be overlooked.

There's also a staffing issue that goes with that. Our athletic dept doesn't have the numbers that an OSU or UK or bigger D-I institutions have. Those schools have staffers that strictly do social media. At Ohio, they're asked to wear multiple hats. Not sure how that would affect this idea (which I agree would certainly help the fan experience)

Why can't we train students and help them get real-world experience? Sort of like, you know, an educational institution. You telling me it couldn't be worth a couple marketing credits? We are a university, and a sporting event can act as an opportunity for the student body.

You could have something like this on your hands.....

http://www.espn.com/college-football/news/story?id=5864754

But you also would have possibly someone who could be far more social media savvy than some stiff. But judgment and filters (normally) get better with age too. Besides, I have a hard time believing that someone couldn't be found and paid to come out for 6 home games a year for a modest sum. At $100 a game for say 4 hours $25 an hour is a pretty good rate for a likely moonlighting gig. The bigger challenge would be working around a mix of Saturday games and MACtion. I bet more than $600 is spent on TP and soap for the restrooms.

I know OUr pockets aren't as deep as the larger D1s but don't we have one of the top athletic administration programs? And also a strong communications program? I would think those enrolled could be put to good use if this was really wanted.

I think it would be a really great project for those two programs and Ohio Athletics - good idea to at least attempt to collaborate, right?

You guys realize that being "the" University, they cannot just hire folks like that anymore. HR is involved in everything outside, and then there are so many restrictions and regulations on student workers in regards to amount paid and hours.

If the rules at Ohio are anything like they are where I work (Emory), its absurd to the point of suspecting that HR doesn't WANT you employing undergrads. We had a student want to volunteer in our lab last year, it took WEEKS to get the paperwork squared away, and this was for an unpaid position (albeit one that required some degree of lab safety training/documentation).

Any updates on the scoreboard replacement? Anyone local who can swing by and check it out? It's odd to me that all of this is being done so quietly. Why not publicize the enhancements being made? Hopefully it's not because they are small improvements not worthy of mentioning.

We've seen one tweet with a few pics that didn't tell us anything.
