When I was there it looked like the lower part was high enough that no one could stand in front of it to block your view of it. However, from the angle of Alan's photo it looks like someone could stand in the sight lines from the seats in the stadium. I'll bet you if there's a crowd on Victory Hill, some fools will find a way to block the lower part of scoreboard and no one will do a thing about it. Again, this assumes that the angle of Alan's photo is not deceptive. I certainly hope my original impression of the height is correct.
My worst fears were realized -- about 15-20 a-holes stood in front of the scoreboard for the better part of the game. There was no effort to get them to move. The crucial information was at the top of the screen so you could see Score, Time, etc., however at times part of the various messages and videos were obstructed by these a-holes. Why in the world would you put up a classy new scoreboard than allow people to obstruct part of it? This makes absolutely no sense to me. BTC will say I'm just being an "angry old man," but I can't believe anyone would find this kind of behavior acceptable.
And in game one we have are first complaint!!! Excuse people for standing in a general admission standing area!!!!
Hells bells, you will excuse anything just to get in a snarky comment directed at me. Says more about you than about me. And, to answer the other poster, I sit in the second row of the Phillips Section, which is much lower than you, from my angle the idiot assholes standing in front of the scoreboard do block part of it. There is absolutely NO excuse for the Athletic Department to allow this. It would be so easy to just ask people not to stand in front of the scoreboard. There's so much other real estate on Victory Hill to occupy, but the assholes all congregated in that one area. Inexcusable. In the words of my friend and former student, Chuck Landon: UNACCEPTABLE! ;-)
So here's a hypothetical question. If standing in front of the scoreboard is a big deal, is someone standing up in front of me and blocking my view of plays during the game a problem too?
Only if he or she is taller than you are? ;-)

If it's the score, stats, or an ad somebody is paying for - and we pay the cost of building and maintaining the darn thing - for the benefit of VIEWERS/FANS at the game - then common sense says it should not be be obscured - In Peden OR the Convo.

Someone complained about what others complain about and referenced the game mattering most. Well, the score, time left, down, yds to go (personal fouls, etc. per the Convo) - They all have a bit to do with The Game.....jeesh....

All of those critical data points are at the top of the scoreboard so nothing was obscured for anyone in the stadium.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but the down and distance and line-to-gain is located on the field (and that is the OFFICIAL down, distance and line-to-gain!!!! The clock is located in three locations, all conveniently located if one would happen to not be in your sight-line. And anyone who comes to a game to see the ads needs their freaking head examined!!!!

the WOW factor will be the money for staffing and compatible technology to utilize the board to its full potential. So feel free to contribute to the OBC and fund a position.

Two of those "idiot assholes" were my children you dickhead. In fact, most of the people on the hill were children.

Last time I checked, OUr fight song implores us to STAND UP and cheer, not sit down be mute. That said, I make no apologies for standing when I feel the need.

That actually was a serious answer put in a humorous way. You should be standing up too. If you can't see the difference between someone standing up in front of you to cheer on the team and some clueless people obstructing the view of the scoreboard for people sitting low in the stadium than there's not much more I can say to enlighten you.

So, OCF is alright with standing unless it blocks his view. This is classic "get off my lawn".

With a 180' view of the scoreboard to someone at all times, we may as well just close the hill and refund family packs because OCF can't see the giant TV.

Lost in all of this is the very pertinent question, should people be permitted to stand in front of the new scoreboard? Seems reasonable the university would want to cordon off an area immediately below and out a few feet from the base of the scoreboard, maybe twenty feet.

What was the deal with the sound system? There were a couple instances where it sounded like it was shorting out. At first I thought someone left a lapel mic on and it was rubbing on their shirt collar, but then it happened while at the same time Lou was making an announcement, which didn't seem affected by the static coming through the speakers.

I yelled "bless you!" a few times from the student side when I heard it. Perhaps Lou's nose was feeling a bit agitated?

Those types of static-y sounds usually come from bad/poor connections between cables or where cables enter equipment. Hopefully when the final product is done, all will be taken care of.

I never sounded like static. It sounded like someone saw a crumb on a hot mic and was continuously blowing into it, not realizing it was on.

Or.....after the season is over, they could simply re-grade the hill so that the scoreboard happens to be at the highest point. Hmmm....

Wait until they start parking the free shuttle up there. OCF wont be able to see anything.
Does this monorail get done before or after they install the zip line from the hill to Walter's rotunda?

I think I may have stumbled upon Ohio State's next moneymaker. Let people zipline across Ohio Stadium during a game. You'd make money out the wazoo...until a punter clocked somebody mid-air...

They announced that they were getting sound level readings or something like that so that things should be set for the next games.

I clearly don't keep up with all the posts on the football board...you m ean to tell me that scoreboard was just temporary? What did we do, lease it from Best Buy? Did someone forget to place our order for the real one until August? That seems like a lot of work to put in a temporary board for one game, then take it all down and put up a permanent one. I can't imagine that was a cheap endeavor.
