Well, that just sucks. I was looking forward to seeing him, Cope, and White terrorize defenses. Someone else will need to step up.

I'm just not sure who steps up. I've seen one practice this season and to say that EB was the best receiver on the field that day would be a huge understatement.

I think Willie Cherry or Keevan Harris has to step up. Good sized kids that can be MAC mismatches over the next several years.

Huge loss. In terms of who steps up I'm looking to the TE position. We have two upper classmen tight ends in Mangen and Morgan. it will be interesting to see how many targets they get this year.

Pretty sure I saw Odom in a red jersey last week. I guess we find out this week if he can go. Injuries at CB and WR will test the depth of this team.

He has already redshirted, so no.
He would have to lose a second season to receive a 6th year of eligibility. NCAA athletes get a 5 year clock

It would only be a possibility if his first season of redshirting could be proven to be for medical reasons also.

The basic rule is that you have 4 years of eligibility, and 5 years to use it. Thus, you can "redshirt" one of those years. A second rule is that if you are injured and miss most of a season, it doesn't count as one of your four years, the medical hardship rule. This rule primarily benefits people who have not yet redshirted. Thus, when Papi White played as a true freshman, but was injured after a few games, he was able to count that year as a medical redshirt.

If you miss 2 or more seasons because of injury, you can apply for a sixth year to use up your eligibility. Thus, when Nathan Carpenter had multiple seasons cut short due to injury, he was able to apply for, and was granted a sixth year, giving him an unusual record, with recorded stats in six different years. Didn't he play against Marshall six times? It seems like it.

In Ball's case, since he has already redshirted, and since I don't believe it was for medical reasons, this is just a lost year.

It becomes a little clearer why Ball was videoing the practice the other day. I thought it was strange at the time.
This is a real bummer for the team. Could end up being devastating if no one else steps up.

It's pretty incredible how detailed the NCAA has to get in order to keep people from finding loopholes in the system. My NCAA Compliance course when I got my master's was probably my favorite class. They even goes as far as having a rule for when the recruits official clock on his five years starts, which I believe is the second he steps on campus after signing the NLI. No givesies, backsies apparently.

From Solich's comments, it sounds more Meyer is in the running for the third WR spot (giving Ohio two former QBs), but won't play against Hampton for disciplinary reasons. So, Marhefka, perhaps? Or Cherry? What ever happened to the other player from BC, Seymour?

I don't think so? We may have had some questions from the recruiting test on our mid-term or final, or maybe we went over them in class. I know we spent a lot of time on the recruiting rules though. It was a lengthy discussion for the better part of two class periods. Our prof was a Compliance Rep at Cincinnati and she told a lovely story about former Wake Forest/UC QB Ben Mauk.

Tupa had surgery and is out. A couple of the others looked good.
In the Post article Coach Dixon seems to allude to the fact that we have depth at WR. Whether or not the quality is there remains to be seen.

Isiah Cox is listed in the student directory. He supposedly had some clearing house matters to take care of. He's in the media guide listed as a RB. He's not on the roster. His signing day vid on YouTube shows a WR who could play this year.

I gave up my original Solich Soarer hang glider as I kept getting shot at by Turkey hunters in Vinton County. Now I named my drone that and it picked up on WR Hunter Edwards. Local player with nice athletic skills. HUDL vid is mostly QB stuff, but he has made some plays in practice.

Cope and Odom need to stay healthy. TEs need to be more involved in the offense. We should be fine.
