In my opinion, the halftime show against Hampton was OK. The show this past Saturday was a bit boring. The song-selection against Kansas included much slower songs, not much in the way of rock songs. Well played, but not very exciting.
Also, can I say that the halftime dance routines are starting to get a little stale and predictable? The dance takes place during the last song they play, it consists of the members pairing up, or grouping into fours. They dance individually a little bit, have three members hold up one member somehow, and that's about it. I'd say that's generally the way it goes.
Could the 110 do more with formation marching to create neat shapes during their whole performance, the way some other college bands have started doing? I don't know enough about it to suggest. But the show did seem a little bland to me this past Saturday.
With the software that's available today, you can put together a drill for pretty much any "shape" you want.
For example, when the 110 plays a pro game they usually do a formation for that team.
Thing is,a show with a lot of different "shapes" can also get "stale".
Instead of what dance, its what picture or "stick figure".
In fact,if you look at bands that do this type of show,OSU comes to mind,a lot of the shapes are quite similar. They just use "tarps" or posters to convey their specific visual image.
The 110 made their reputation with rock.
Lately, they seem to veering more towards "pop",which as was apparent last Saturday, doesn't translate well to their style.
I would also think they could really do some cool stuff with jazz.
There's also a lot of "show" music available.
But licensing could be an issue.
I know the 110 has has a number of members that marched in Drum Corps.
Some recent shows would also fit the 110's style.
