I just wanted to share that thought. I mark this date on the calendar as soon as it comes out. It's truly a "holiday" for me, sometimes a holiday weekend. This will be my 15th Homecoming as an alum, out of 17 potential years. I've only missed it for two weddings in my family.

With that little thought, I look forward to seeing much of my "OU Family" on Saturday. If you're in The Convo lot Saturday morning, stop by to tailgate for a bit. We'll have a great group of Bobcats of all ages hanging out and just enjoying the day.

Cheers!

Completely agree! Although I haven't been nearly as consistent as you, this is one of the best weekends of the year! If the current forecast is right, it should be a beautiful day (a little warmer than most). We'll be across the street at the CoB tailgate with all my Bobcats and my brand new alum!

Can't get back to Athens for Homecoming this year,or most years for that matter.

But,will have my Kegs and Eggs on Saturday morning and the watch the stream for the game (if ESPN3 works) and the half time stream.

This will be year 27 as a alum for me. This weekend is the best. The parade, tailgating with two meals, the game, seeing old friends. As soon as it is over, I cannot wait for the next.

I always tell Mike Johnson that the 5-10 minutes the Alumni Band performs just makes my heart happy.

I agree with this. And I read somewhere that with the 110 celebrating 50 years they are anticipating more coming back to march in the alumni band then ever before.

Also agreed. 110 Alums doing "Long Train" is about as good as it gets. A friend of mine who marches every year said it's possible there could be upwards of 850 alumni band members in the parade or on the field this year. They said when they marched in remembrance of Socciarelli there were 600-650. It should be an interesting day to watch the band.

When do tailgate lots open ... I'm trying to estimate just how early I'll need to hit the road from Cbus.

Totally agree George. I have, in the past, referred to it as my favorite "hOUliday".

That's a great tradition to have!

BTW - is there a link to the halftime stream you're aware of?

Its on the 110's web site:

marching110.com

They usually go live with a couple of minutes left in the half.

If you click on the link it will take you to You tube.
There's a couple of really cool videos of the 110,including a 1971 half time (Superstar,Evil Way,Redemption by BS&T and bridge Over Troubled Water).
Plus a 1971 pregame.

During those same 5-10 minutes, my daughter Andrea OU '94 goes slightly nutso. And, yep, I'll be picking her up in Columbus and arriving in Athens in time for the parade. And, yep, we'll stay for the post-game show when The 110 and Alumni Band team up for all the traditional songs. All in all, the day is a one heck of a spirit lifter.

This is an admission against interest. I graduated in 1978 and have never even seen a Homecoming Parade or participated in a Homecoming event as a student or alumni. I've been MIA on Homecoming weekend for over 40 years. Since I have a son who is now a senior, I'm coming down Thursday and taking in the whole weekend including the parade. Unlike me, my son will be able to say he actually went to Homecoming as a student and did it with with his 'Old Man.' I'm glad I've lived long enough to correct the error of my ways!

Perhaps(?) worse than that, an esteemed BA poster from the greater Akron area has never attended an uptown Halloween party despite being a 4-year student over 35 years ago.

This year is the 18th Red Room Reunion and doing it on Homecoming. We've got 'em from Connecticut to California coming in and my old Athens Georgia pal showed up yesterday. Homecoming in Athens.......just right!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember the "Red Room" as the bar in the Lakeview Community Center (my name for it) that was adjacent to (or part of) Lakeview Apts and next to New South. Do I have that right? Red Ram was down the alley by Woolworths and later became the Longbranch, and later still, Mug and Margaritas.

So where are the reunion members hanging out? I might know a few.

Way to go, Sean!

My late wife Lynne (OU '68) and I began attending HCs in 1990. From until her death in early 2014 we missed only a couple. Following her passing our daughter Andrea (OU '94) and I haven't missed an HC.

We arrive early, duck into College Book Store, then the parad, then into The Front Room for coffee, then to the tailgating area and lastly the game. We do stay for the post-game band show.

Savor every moment with your son!

You are correct! The Red Room was in Lakeview and the Red Ram was in the alley. Have a group coming today and the remainder tomorrow. Saturday we'll be at the Peden lot tailgating and Friday, well, uptown. Stop by....most of us were Red Room bartenders; others just customers. Hey, remember the taco/tequila nights and draft nights there. $.70 pitchers of draft on Tuesdays......wow.

If I remember correctly,in the mid 70's there was a pizza place in there also.

Used to walk there some nights from the East Green when we wanted hot pizza.

In those days, when Domino's delivered,it was usually room temperature.

And still later, Gee Willickers? Or was that a different building?

I like that Homecoming tradition. The boat leaves my house around 7:15am Saturday. 80 minutes to The Convo lot from my house.

Big suggestions since you're new to the Homecoming scene:

Friday: Get to a bar early to hold down a seat. Stay there til sometime around 11pm for the Drum Line's tour up Court Street.

Saturday: Don't miss the Alumni band in the parade, and post game as other's mentioned.

Roam tailgate lots, make friends. Tailgating is light years better than it was even ten years ago.

Hi. I have a Blue Pass (parking access to the tailgate park) and 4 tickets available for the Homecoming Game vs. Central Michigan. Seat are great; 4 together, at the end of the row (39), section 106 (about 50 yard line). The seats are at the top of the section with no one directly behind you. You can comfortably lean against the railing behind you - very nice way to enjoy the game and the 110!

Not sure on that. Both Mug and Margaritas and Gee Wilikers were after my time. In any event, the original building is now gone and has been replaced by a modern two story garage like structure at the back of the old Woolworth's building. At least that's where I remember it being when you went down the alley between the Varsity and Woolworths.
