The temporary one is coming down today and the new one is supposed to be here by Wednesday. It will be about 4 feet wider and 2 feet taller than the first one with the screen extending to the edges of the metal frame. The temporary one has already been purchased by a high school somewhere in Ohio. Barring any unforeseen glitches, the new one should be fully operational by Homecoming.

I'm hopeful that means down and distance is more easily visible going forward.

Stopped looking at it because down and distance were rarely correct.

But "unforeseen glitches" is our core competency. Remember our newly planted grass field following the lowering of the playing surface? The visitors' stands catching fire? "Ribs at Ritz?" The Bobcat's head falling off as he parachuted into the stadium? Do I need to continue?

BTW, I made a point of taking a side trip down to the first row of the Phillips section at the point closest to Victory Hill to check out the view of the scoreboard with a bunch of idiot a-holes standing on the hill. Their heads overlapped the bottom-most portion of the video screen. Score, time, down and distance (which was incorrect) were all MANY feet above their heads.

I assume the bottom 5 or so feet will be equipped with shocking capabilities for anyone who stands in front of it, right?

The overlap will be even more once the permanent scoreboard is in place and extends down another two feet. Thanks for caring.

We *really* should have sourced a scoreboard that could also keep pretzels warm AND dispense them efficiently. Also, this scoreboard should have been designed to be easily moved to the Convo during basketball season.

OK - So "we" spend a Lot of $ on a scoreboard - right?

So - What should be the minimum expected requirements for what "we" spend our $ on?

That first paragraph makes me smile, actually. Somebody add more to that awesome list.

This is all part of the charm of OHIO.

And of small-time-shoe-string-budget attempts at div 1 athletics.

The beer you can now buy in Peden is half full and/or you are halfway to another beer. Cheers and cheer up folks.

well first off the purchased board is not even up and running yet. Then you have to have time to be brought up to date with the technology and build your infrastructure and staffing to be able to utilize the board and all of the features of the board. Give this a chance would be much better than people just having to find something to bitch about. We've had so far on this topic over a dozen different complaints, and pretty much most of them are petty complaints.

If it is any consolation/proof that some of us have moved on, I clicked on this thread expecting to see scores from around the MAC.

And that has ZERO to do with OHIO Athletics. But of course you've got to blame someone for the foot prints on your lawn.

Somehow every other Division I program in the country has figured out how to install and operate a scoreboard. For us, it's up there with maintaining Los Alamos.

I'm with Ohio69, though. I actually find it charming when these little things go awry.

I don't know if I've ever laughed harder than being at the game the Rufus' head fell off while parachuting in. Between that, him punching Brutus (and didn't the motorcycle once take off on him?) our mascot mishaps are better than anyone else's.

I remember the rufus head falling off. Do you remember the wind on that day? I can't believe they even attempted that. it was dangerous to even parachute and hit some type of target on that day.

Now I can't get the image out my mind of a headless Rufus majestically gliding like Mary Poppins over the Ridges and into the Appalachian foothills and local law enforcement chasing below like the 2009 Balloon Boy hoax....

Also, it reminds me of Rocky, the Nuggets' mascot:

I'm 33 years old and enjoy mascot videos more than I enjoy anything else in life.

I think this is proof that our mascot never changed. He might have become a committed cross-fitter or gone hardcore on the Paleo diet, but even though Rufus has shed those excess pounds https://i.pinimg.com/236x/bd/3e/79/bd3e79e17da8d93a7c94b7... , he's still Stoney the Bobcat at heart: http://courtstreetstories.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/...

Maybe not changed, but he has certainly morphed...
